Mirror Mirror (10 mins)

Area:

Create 2 lines apporox 8 m long and 5m apart with a gate at either end on both players sides.

Equipment:

Cones, poles, discs

Objective:

Each player stands on one side of the cones facing each other. One player starts as the leader and the other player is the follower. The leader shimmies from side to side up and down from startig the middle. The follower mirrors the movements if the leader. The leader is trying to lose/shake of the follower and when ever they chose the leader will then make a dash for it and run through one of the gates. The follower tries to beat them through the same side gate on their side. Swap over the roles od leader and follower and keep repeating.

Progression:

Perform the same excercise but have a ball at your feet

Space invaders (10 mins)

Area:

Using the same set up as the mirror game add additional cones to create gates/goals as shown. These gates should be about a meter. (these measurements are a guide. You may want to reduce or increase the goal sizes or increase or reduce the size of the gaps between goals to make it easier or harder for the player to defend.

Equipment:

Poles, cones, discs, balls.

Objective:

This game is for 2 players. Each player defends one end of gates. The object is to try and score by passing through one of the gates of the opponent. The opponent is allowed to move across within their zone to block and if they gain possesion then they can try to score in their opponents gates. Both players are allowed to move anywhere in there zones to try and create space but are not allowed into the central area. if the ball bounces into the middle then the game is paused and the coach will decide who restarts. If it is a only just outside of the zone then the player can retrieve but bring the ball back to the zone and continue. If a attept goes behind then the player defending will retrieve the ball and restart the game. Neither player are allowed to use their hands at anytime to block or when retreiving the ball.

Key points:

In possesion player needs to try and move the ball quickly to take advantage of any gaps, change direction quickly or use deception to trick the opponents with fake shots or giving them the eyes.

Defending player needs to try and anticipate where the opponent is goiing to shoot//pass andmove as quickly as possible to try and block.

Agility shooting (30 mins)

Area:

Use attacking 3rd of pitch roughly. Put markers down for shooting area on edge of penalty area centrally, cones near corners and agillity stations as shown (this can be what ever you like).

Equipment:

Cones, poles, hurdles, ladder, mannequinns/target net. balls

Objective:

Start with a player in the shooting box, a player on each crossing cone in each corner and 4th player collecting balls from shots and feeding back to crossers. (if you have 5 players you could use the players either side of the goal as crossers simulating a clearance out of the box). The objective is the player in the shooting box to work hard for set time (1min, 1.5min or 2 mins depending on fitness). They will run out the box and through an agility station, round the cone at the end and back through the station. Before returning into the box they will call for a cross form a player and try and shoot with minimal tounches trying to get their shot away as quickly as possible. They then exit the square and go through a different agility station and repeat. Players can not go through the same agility station untill they have gone through the others. The objective is to try and get as many shots as possible and the focus is not the amount of goals. This is to put emphasis on intensity and doing things quickly. Once the time is up the players totate so all players have been in the middle.

Progression:

Alter The stations for different agility tasks or make them skill based. For example, dribble through the poles with a ball and back or run through hurdles and do 5 v cuts in front of a cone at end then run back.

Keypoints:

Put the emphasis on intensity and shooting as quickly as possible to try and get as many shots as possible. Taking your time to be accurate is not the focus. Challenge players to try a first time shot but only if it is realistic to achieve. Ensure the crossers are ready to cross as the player calls for the ball as the player shouldn't be waiting in the middle because the crosser isn't ready because they are not concentrating. Also the shooter needs to call early so they arrive onto the cross and not be waiting because they only called when they arrived in the box. Technical points for shooter are to bend their approach and be angled and not be facing to goal straight on as it will be harder to control.
