Dribble and change direction (10 mins.).

Challenge players to dribble ball through triangles, enter at one side, turn and exit at another side. Then go to another coloured triangle and repeat.

Encourage players to keep close control of the ball using inside and outside of both feet. Use the space and look around to avoid colliding with other players.

Progression; challenge players to go through as many gate/triangles as possible within a specified time, awarding a point for gates completed. Challenge players to use all left or all right foot touches.

Dribble and change of direction relay competition(15 mins.)

Coach sets out two identical dribble zones consisting of four different colour cones with a tall/ large cone at end zone.

Two lines of player, one calls a colour they enter the zone dribble around that colour cone and then dribble to the tall cone, rounds the cone and exits the zone and runs with the ball back to line up. The relay competition will encourage the children to play quickly and attack in the zone.

Progression of the game; the coach calls a sequence of colours and the player then follows the sequence around the cones before exiting the zone and returning to line.

Great game for younger players, encourages players to dribble and run quickly keeping control of the ball. Also encourages young players to scan the field and identify play area's.

Coach can observe techniques and make interventions if necessary.

4 v 4 small sided dribble to score game (15 mins.)

Coach sets out play area and replaces goals/ nets with two cones 4 metres apart on goal line.

Players score by dribbling the ball through the two cones (No goal keepers.) Create dribble zone with flat disc markers, only one defender allowed in dribble zone to encourage 1 v 1 and make scoring achievable.

Players can be challenged to dribble with weaker foot. Field size can be reduced to increase the tempo of the game.
