Dribbling Gates (15 mins)

Organization:  10min 10 Players,  Mirrored Activity  10 cones,( Multiple Colors) 5 players per game

Procedure: One player starts with the ball, there are 5 gates, the red players look to stop the ball player from dribbling through or finding an open gate. The player with the ball needs to be creative to try and use different parts of the feet to move the ball, use their body to feint or change speed and direction to get through a gate. The player must dribble through the gate to receive two points.

If a defender wins the ball they get a point. Each player gets a min to see how many gates they can get through and how many points can they get. After the min the player switches from attacker to defender.

Coaching Points: Dribbling - See the ball/player, attack with speed use your laces, small touches change speed change direction

Endzone Game Thursday (20 mins)

End Zone Game: 12-15min 12:3 work/rest

4 v 4  5 v 5

Objective: Looking to exploit space to create opportunities to run with the ball and scoring by dribbling and beating players 1 v 1

Set Up:   60 x 4om  with end zones, bibs, cones, balls

Procedure: Each team is given an end zone to defend and an end zone to attack. The team in possession must try to dribble the ball into the opposition’s end zone.

Rules/Constraints

  • A goal is scored when a player dribbles past a defender and into the opposition’s end zone
  • After a goal is scored, the opposing team starts with ball from inside its end zone.
  • (other team must back up to retreat line ). If the ball goes off the side of the pitch the game is restarted with a grounded pass from where the ball left the pitch

Progression:

Passing game

Players now  can score goals by making a pass to a player running into the end zone. This rule encourages creative play through passing and forward runs off the ball.

Width & Depth: The attacking team looks to stretch the opponents defensive shape. The attackers use the width pull defenders out of their shape and create space

The attackers move the ball to change the point of attack in an effort to find space between or  behind the defense.

The player in possession can  make a pass into the end zone as the player runs to receive the ball. The running player must not arrive in the end zone before the ball. large space - well encourage individuals to drive into space running with the ball. Tighter space players may look to dribble and take players on (dribbling)

Allow players to pick their team name, If the players passes to a teammate v's dribbling in how many points is each action worth.
