Description

Intentions:  This session is designed to work on the themes of the previous three weeks and add a new level of challange to further test the players. The core theme is possession and retaining it. If we have the ball the other team can't score. Care for the ball, when oppurtunity presents look to play forward to score.

Principles of Play:  The focus remains on the attacking (in-possession) principles of play. A real focus on supporting play and creating space through good movement should come out in this session. All of these principles require creativity, the intention is always to play to penetrate. Possession with a purpose is key. All out of possession principles will be tested through practice design and still part of the 'learning'. More sub-conciously at this time as the focus for coaching inputs and interventions is on the attacking principles.

Core Technical Skills:  All of the core technical skills are tested and encorporated throughout the session. A real emphasis on passing and reciving is key within these drills but through session design and objectives players will also be worked on turning, moving with the ball and finishig. Due to the game related/game-based design of the session Defensive core technical skills are enaged throughoiut the practices as well.

Player Engagement: This session looks like football and the game itself. The intensity and ball rolling time is high and players will be exposed to lots of actions and decisions through the nature of the games. Wanting to score and personally over coming the problems that have to be solved present a really strong intrinsic motivation to this session. Extrinsicly motivated through praise of the coaches and congratulations from theri team mates when performing positive and successful actions.

Coach Behaviours: Positive. Entusiatic. Ecited by positive player actions. A considered and balanced appliction of intervetions and coach behaviours, while being consistent in body langauge and challanges. A whistle and stop watch is used to help control the session.

Safety Considerations: Rest breaks. Water bottles available and located suitably. No Slide tackles. Ball played on the ground to suit session design and minimise arial actions.

Additional Notes: A positive welcome to the boys congratulating them on how well they have been crossing training over in to recent matches. Re-visit all previous learning on this topic to confirm learning, before moving forward. Wash-up the session well. Focusing on all the positives and confirming new learning and understanding.

The out of possession team tries to win the ball back and transition to play. They get a 'Goal' if in transition they win the ball and work it to an end zone. They then score as per rule of the in possession team.

Keep the ball iin play to encourage problem soving and playing out of difficult positions. You can go back to go forward bouncing of the end zone player if needed.

Phase 2 (25 mins)

Oranges and Greys to keep possession, protect the ball, retain possession. Beating a press and playing forward through a line/team (the greens) When opputuunity presents.

Oranges or Greys get a 'goal' when they transfer the ball from one side to the other. If greens intercept or win the ball pressing (only one green can be pressing in the zone with the ball in at a time), they can break out of their area and attack a goal. Finish to score a goal.

This practice design will bring out the session intentions and core principles of play being focussed. The focus in on the in possession principles of play (attacking) But all out of possession principles are worked on in session design and the objectives iof the drill.

Players to be calm on the ball. Support the play, using movement to create options and passing lines. Decision making is key. Look to penetrate at the right times. Do not force the play forward. Use the ball to move the greens to help create space.
