Small sided game to apply the idea of breaking lines.
- 3 v 3 with 2 mini goals at each side.
- The attacking team must play the ball from there half to the opposition half in order to score a goal.
- Once the ball has been played over the half way line they can try to score.
- If the other team recovers the ball they must do the same to try and score a goal.
Progressions
- Limit touches players can have
- Each player must touch the ball before the team can score
- Add a cone deeper in the half so players must switch the ball and break lines earlier.
Coaching points

- communication, to speak to your team about options

Breaking lines drill (20 mins)
Breaking lines practice
- have 3 teams of 4 and split the playing area into 3 sections
- 1 team on the outside section will start with the ball whilst 1 player from the middle section closes them down to try and win the ball
- the team with the ball must play as many passes as the coach says before trying to switch the ball through the middle section and out to the other side without it being intercepted
- If the middle team recovers the ball they will swap with whichever team loses possession
Progressions
- Have more than 1 player pressing the ball
- Limit touches players are allowed to have
Coaching points
- Are you in a position to recieve the ball? Think about if your teammate can make a pass to you
- Use the width of the area
- Communicate with teammates
- Quick, crisp passes
