Method:

  • players set up on pitch: (red 2 Centre backs, 2 full back and a 6) (blue a 6 two wingers and a 9
  • Red team are trying to play out from the back and into the cones in order to score
  • Blue team have to try prevent them from scoring by intercepting the red team. Then trying to score past the GK in goal.

Coaching Points: Blue team from the front

the 9 positions himself in the middle of the two CB`s.

when the ball is shifted to one CB. the 9 angles his run (as seen above) to cut out the other Centre back and the GK

The two wingers are screening the opposing wingers

the 6 is trying to block the space for the CB driving forward.


RED team

  • the 2 Centre backs on the edge of the box in position that is side on to receive the ball
  • full backs are half way between 18 yard box and halfway line close to touch line to give us width and an option for GK to clip the ball
  • The 6 is up high to give us space in the middle
  • As the ball shifts across the 6 will pull to the other side of the middle of the pitch to play in the lines of the blue 9 and blue 6.
  • Red team be patient and wait for opening to score.

Method: 

  • the minute the red team score the blue six can get the ball from the centre circle and immediately counter
  • the 9 makes a move across to receive the ball
  • the wingers can either show for the ball short or make a run in behind.
  • the 6 who has the ball can drive forward and shoot or pass the ball

Coaching Points:

Blue team

  • looking to counter quickly
  • wingers stay wide and have body shape open to receive the ball
  • 6 can drive forward or pass.
  • looking for pass to open up defence
  • 9 either makes run in behind or looks for ball to feet
  • SHOOT

RED team

  • transitioning to defend
  • centre backs and full backs in tight and in a line
  • 6 presses opposing 6
  • trying to prevent blues from scoring
