What: the Basic Rondo is a possession game with the team in possession playing numbers up in a small area. The game is played in 360 degrees. Players stay in the middle until they win the ball or for a period of time. If the players in the middele are 4 players or less the time should be 1 to 2.5 minutes ( see hte Periodization table below).

This is a Stage 1 (Welcoming) activity.

Why: the Basic Rondo is a pure possession game that emphases the techniques of possession; body shape, how to receive, and quality of pass. While there isn't direction, the players should be encouoraged to play passes that split the defenders.

Where: splitting any defense to play between two lines.

Who: 4 v 2 to 9 v 3. This activity includes all the lines of a team. Playing the pass that splits the defense replicates playing between lines.

When: attacking phase of the game.

Periodization

# Players - Work Interval - Recovery - Reps

2 to 4 (middle) - 1 to 2.5 min - 1 to 2 min - 3 to 8

General "Rule of Thumb," when the Speed of Play of an activity drops, it is time for recovery.

The fewest number of players determines the duration of an activity.

Touch restrictions typically will result in higher speed of play.

Space will effect player actions, which will affect speed of play.
