Physical15 mins

Physical warm-up with technical (passing accuracy and speed)

2x players in '1' position, pass out to position 2 (side each) and follow their run. Receiver does the same and passes to next position and follows their pass to occupy that position. When the final player (6) receives the ball they turn in and pass through the gate, spring race (with the ball) to run to the goal. Declare winning 'side' then start again from the goal.

Coaching points:

Heads-up receiving and passing quickly but accurately

Players stay on marker, can they receive on their back foot to move the ball out and pass on with their second touch?

Coaching tips:

Reduce number of passing markers evenly based on number of players

Play out from back (overload)20 mins

Defence v attack - playing out from the goalkeeper

Reds team (7) has an overload in terms of numbers and has to retain possession for 1 minute, then run over the end line to 'win'.

Blue team (2) has to gain possession to score or force the ball out of play. Bonus 3 goals if they win possession and attack/score in the goal.

Switch bibs for each 'round' until all players have played as a blue.  Adjust based on number but retain overload for team trying to hold the ball for 1 minute. Then progress by reducing the overload (e.g. 6 v 3)

Learning aims -

Each phase of play starts with the goalkeeper taking a goal kick

Build in self-learning time - asking players what is difficult, how they might improve etc

Encourage midfielders to have good movement - positioning themselves to be passing option/available

Use the goal keeper (9th player) as a passing option

Play out - Press20 mins

Defence v attack - playing out from the goalkeeper

Simulated game condition. Red team play out from the back, only two opposition (blue) players in the half and within the retreat line to start.

Aim (Reds) - Run the ball over the 'End/Retreat line' provided at least four players (including the goal keeper) have touched the ball

Aim (Blues) - Press once the goal kick is taken, win possession by pressing/marking and working as a team. Score in the goal.

Even numbered teams except GK who is neutral.

Best of 10 games, each team has 5 goal kicks each (switch half way through).

Coaching points:

As per pervious, give the keeper wide and safe options

Movement of the midfield and be aware of approaching players

Play back if facing their own goal

PRESS from the off in co-ordinated attack to deny passing options and track movement.
