1v2 Counter (15 mins)

Session Topic: Defensive Principles

Recovery runs, 1v2 countering, Delay

Stage: Stage 2

Set Up:

20 x 30 yard field (Scale to age and level of play) Balls, Mini Goals, Bibs

Time:

20 mins (play for 5 mins then switch attackers and defenders)

Organization:

Players are split into two teams. Defending Team will have 2 defenders with one making a recovery run. Coach plays the ball out to the attacker, attacker tries to take on the defender 1v1 and score. The first red defender looks to pressure the ball and delay so that they second defender can recover. Second defender goes when the ball is received by the attacker. They have to go around the goal, through the gate, to get onto the playing field.

Coaching Points:

Ball Control (Soft Touches, keep the ball close)

Pressure Defender (Delay the attack so second defender can recover)

Recovery runs (Pace of play and recover centrally towards the goal)

Communication (Eye contact, Verbal, Hand Signals) *BE SPECIFIC*

Conditioning (Pace of Play)
