Technical Psychological
Using the whole field. Ball retention.

Main (15 mins)

Organization:

  • 3 teams of equal number. (Ex. 4v4v4)
  • Two areas labelled with cones 15x15. A third area in the middle of them (Shaded region) 10 yds gap between two coned areas.
  • 1 Ball

Instructions:

  • 2 teams start in their own 15x15 area. (Offensive teams)
  • Defending team in the middle of both areas. (Blue team)
  • Ball starts in one of the 15x15 area. (Red team)
  • First pass is free when receiving attacker touches the ball one defender (Blue) enters the area and tries to either win the ball back or kick it out of the zone.
  • Offensive teams have to complete 3 passes then attempt to play the ball from their grid to opposite offensive team (Black) to score a point. If successful defender leaves the Red teams area and a new defender from Blue team enters the Black teams area only after the ball is touched by one of the attackers.
  • If defending team is able to clear the ball from one of the attacking zones, wins the ball from an attacking team or intercepts the ball while it is being played from one zone to the other attacking zone then the team that lost the ball becomes defending team and the previous defending team takes over their zone.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Can we find an open teammate inside our zone?
  • Can we complete passes?
  • Where is the open teammate when its 4v1?
  • How can we get open?
  • Can we switch the field when passing to the other attacking team?

Regressions/Progressions:
