Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Properly receiving with the inside part of the foot. Passing with the inside part of the foot (striking the middle of the ball, ankle locked). Body position should be open to the game meaning that they can comfortable receive the ball and pass it on their second touch.

Understanding how the functional warm-up translates to the game

Warm Up: Y-Passing (15 mins)

Focus shoud be on the players using proper receiving and passing tecnique.

Receiving Technique --> Players should be ready to receiving ("on their toes") Receiving toe slightly up, foot in the air, inside of the foot, first touch should be in the direction of the next pass.

Passing Technique --> Plant foot is pointed in direction of the pass, passing foot is open to the target, ankle locked, striking the middle of the ball, ball should be rolling not bouncing, proper pace of the ball, insde of the foot.

Adequate size grid (30 by 24)

Teams get a point for every time they are able to pass it to one neutral player to the other neutral player. Focus should be on receiving and passing technique, as well as player movement off the ball to creat passing lanes. Their body shape should be open to the field as much as possible. You may need to modify the game and the grid depending on the level and age of the players.

Adequate sized field (36 by 24)

Players can score by either passig it into the goal (1 point) or by making 5 consecutive passes (1 point). If 5 passes is too easy/hard, you can adjust the number of passes accordingly. Emphasis again should be passing and receiving technique, as well as creating passing lanes for players on the ball.

Normal game with throw ins

Players should be encouraged to pass and to create passing lanes for their teammates. If they are not having success, try adding a neutral player to create a numerical advantage with the team in possession.
