Counter-attacking practice to utilise overload situations.
This should be run as 3 x 6 minute practices and continuous to ensure maximum physical load on players for the duration of each cycle.
It should run as:
1vGK
2v1
3v2
and then repeat until the 6 minutes has expired. YLots of balls. Players need to manage the session by getting off the court and return to the start positions as quickly as possible.

Now RED has gone past the shooting line, they can finish.

Technical React to the shot. Do not wait for the ball to go in the goal. The point of contact on the shot is your trigger. First touch away from the defender. Quick and positive touch. |
|
Tactical Supporting player must look to take up a good position to support. Can they break a line with their run? |
|
Physical Can we do things quickly. Feints to trick the defender. |
|
Psychological Be aware of your team mate. On the ball and off the ball. Can you trick the opponent? |
|
Social Communication. Working a as a pair. Good information. |
The moment the RED player touches the ball for their shot, 2 BLUE players can launch a counter-attack against the RED who has to recover and defend.
The 2 BLUE players need to combine quickly and with decisiveness to take advantage of the situation.

Technical Dribble? Wear to? Pass where to? Type of pass? Pace of pass? Parallel/diagonal/lifted pass? |
|
Tactical Where is the GK? How is he supporting? Where is the defender? Can we commit the defender? |
|
Physical Good movement? |
|
Psychological Decision making as the finalisation gets closer. |
|
Social Working together as a pair with concise communication. |
In this event, BLUE 2 makes a run behind red to be available to receive a pass from BLUE 1.
BLUE 1 starts a run to the opposite side of the pitch to support.

Technical Red 2 reacts instantly. Where does the first touch take them? |
|
Tactical Can RED 1 react quickly to take up a good position on the court for an early pass that takes out both BLUE defenders. |
|
Physical RED needs to break quickly. Lots of feinting to disorientate the BLUE defenders. |
|
Psychological Very decisive and determined to break out quickly. |
|
Social Now working as a 3. Awarenes of each other's position on the court is key. |
The point of contact on the shot is the trigger for RED 2 (with a ball) and RED 3 on the other side of the goal to launch a counter-attack against BLUE 1 and 2.

RED 1 immediately makes a run to the right touchline as RED 2 comes out with the ball.
BLUE 2 has to react to cover RED 1's run and opens up the court for RED 3 to make a run in and then check out to the left side line and open up the court.
The counter-attack ends with a finish. If the opponent wins the ball they can attempt to score but have one shot. If this happens then it reverts to a 1vGK and starts again.

General Notes:
Set up: 2 Teams (Red and Blue) + GKs
Teams split evenly on either side of the goal. Players must be set up wide as possible.
The team on the right hand side of the goal start with a ball each.
The aim is to attack at speed and they must get past the shooting line (1O metres from goal) before they can shoot. They get one chance to score. NO REBOUNDS OR FOLLOW UPS
The first attack is 1vGK.
The moment the ball is struck the other team (BLUE) can launch a 2v1 counter-attack. The ball does not have to go in the goal. THE TRIGGER IS THE SHOT AT POINT OF CONTACT.
In the 2v1 possession, the 2 BLUES can decide when to shoot/finish. There is only one go at this. If the BLUES shoot, then the RED team can introduce 2 more players in addition to the 1 RED already on the pitch to launch a 3v2 counter-attack. Again there is one opportunity to shoot.
Once this counter-attack has finished the whole cycle begins again. There is no break and the practice is contintuous for 6 minutes.
A good supply of balls is required and also players need to retreat to their starting spot. They should return to a different side.
Aims & Objectives
The aim of is to attack at speed, maximise the overload and ensure the shot is on target
Organisation & Setup
Full court
Create four gates next to each corner
6 REDs on one side of the court, 3 at each gate - 6 BLUES on the opposite side of the court, 3 at each gate
The 3 players (both colours) to the right of the goal have a ball each
GK in each goal
Create 2 10 yard shooting lines - all players must pass the line belfore they can shoot.
REDS start 1vGK. As soon as the player shoots BLUES attack opposite goal with 2 players and the RED player defends - creating a 2v1.
When the BLUE team shoot 2 REDS join to create a 3v2 and attack the opposite goal.
Coaching Factors:
Speed of attack - how quickly can the attacking team attack
Movement - can the attacking team maximise the overload
Decision making - when to keep the ball / when to pass
Passing lines - can the player without the ball create forward passing lines
How to receive the ball - how to recieve the ball, which part of the foot, body shape
