Attacking: 6v4 with T2D (Position Specific)

Theme - Attacking: 6v4 with T2D (Position Specific)

Description of Practice - 6v4 practice to help improve football actions in build up of GK, centre backs (CBs), fullbacks (FBs) & midfield 6

Organisation - Area size - full width, length - edge of centre circle (adjust to suit age/ability of player)

Equipment: Goal + mini goals and coned 4m target gate, stock of footballs with coach and GK as shown in diagram.

Play starts with GK playing pass to blue team who attempt to combine & pass into mini goals or find coach in target gate

Yellow attacker (9), midfielder (10) & two wingers (7 & 11) must try stop the blue team, win the ball and score a goal.

If blues successfully pass to target or score in mini goals, the coach then plays a pass to yellow team who attempt to combine and score goal (T2A) while the blues transition to defend (T2D)

Coaching Points -

  • Create width & depth (width from CBs & FBs, depth from GK & 6)
  • Good quality, selection & timing of passes
  • Movement to create good angles and distances to receive
  • Decision making - penetrating runs to entice/move defending players or keep possession to switch play and create overload (3v2 as shown in shaded area)
  • Covering positions if possession is lost
  • If ball is lost quick recovering runs to deny scoring opportunity (T2D)

NOTE: Rotate yellow attackers every 3 or 4 plays
