Corners: SAQ Warmup (10 mins)

Organization:

See Fig 1. Field is 30x25. Two red gates and two blue gates in opposite corners. Lines of players at each gate as above, one team in bibs. All balls in pile with coach.

Instructions:

Players from attacking side (indicated above) attempt to score in their gate on the defender's side of the field. The gate that is the same color as the gate they left from (red or blue) is worth 2 points, a gate with a different color is 1 point. (goal directly across grid from start gate worth 2). The defenders can score a point if they are able to tag the attacker. Players then switch lines (stay with their color) after they go (grays and yellows above).

Coaching Points:

* Attacking player straight on, lets you move to both sides

* Change of direction/change of pace to beat defender

* Attacking quickly to beat defender

* Head up to avoid collisions

Progressions:

P1: The coach adds balls to the attacking line. The attackers can only score at the gate of their color. (red with red, blue with blue). Defender is a shadow defender, and goes to line directly across the grid. Once player reaches the other grid, they switch roles (attacker to defender). Game starts with a pass from the defender.

* Good positive first touch to attack defender

* Three E's during move

* Timing of the move

* Attacking defender straight on so you can go to either side

P2: Both corners attack at the same time, still shadow defenders.

* Heads up passing and dribbling to avoid other 1v1 in area

* Good timing of skill moves and touches

* Using their body to protect the ball if unable to attack quickly

* Using angles to win the 1v1s

P3: Defenders are live, alternate corners (red corner first, the blue, etc). Players keep track of their points. Defender can win ball and score in attacker's gate for a point. Attackers score in defenders gate for a point. Rotate lines after 1v1 is finished. Play three minute games. Play 3 games.

* Three E's of skill move

* Attacking defender straight on to be able to beat them either side

* Positive first touch

* Eyes up to see defender and read his angle of approach and body shape

P4: Play same game with both attacking corners attacking at the same time. Play one minute games. Play 3 games.

* Eyes up play to avoid other players in the grid

* Attacking with speed

* Using skill moves/ turns to beat a defender

P5: Free play to pugg goals 3v3 or 4v4. Coach 1v1 situations as needed, focus on penetration for principle of play
