The Session details
Blue team line up with a back 3 and a holding midfielder playing with a high line on the half way line. Recovering run from 1 of the blues defenders if the Reds break the offside line.
Always start from the Red Goalkeeper, Red Team play with a Striker at the tip of a diamond midfield with 2 free wide player either side. The aim for the red team is to get 5 passes before looking to exploit the space in behind by setting free our 2 wide players. The through ball must come from the central area. Once they break the offside line the striker and both wide players become active trying to exploit the free man to score. Once the play has finished in a shot, save etc the wide players must sprint back to the Yellow cone and rotate with next player. Striker must run though the poles before the game restarts with 2 wide new wide players waiting.
Challenges and conditions
1. Make the pitch Bigger so they wide players have more distance to cover.
2. Less passes before they can exploit the space behind, meaning less recovery time.
3. Add a 2nd recovery defender.
4. First time finish
5. Time limit to get a shot away.
Physical Considerations
The session we will be working on endurance, speed, strength, recovery time and general fitness.
1. Wide players (Full Backs or Wide Midfielders) will work on replicating types of runs that occur in matches which requires them to make overlapping, under lapping runs while also having the capacity to make recovering runs if we lose the ball.
2. Strikers work on the types of runs they make in to the box (Change of directions, attacking near/back post) not in straight lines.
3. Recovering defender works on his strength and power to make the challenge, Block and stop the cross.
Technical Returns
Red Team
1. Make the pitch big, Width and depth
2. Can they play through, over and around
3. Exploit the extra man
Blue Team
1. Keep narrow, force them wide
2. Block the middle
3. Leave furthest man
