Passing - opening your body
Players in 2 groups of 4 or 5
Each group plays around a square of cones. Players pass around the square with the instruction that when the ball is coming to them, they must make a sharp movement away from the cone (moving off their defender) and receive the ball across their body, controlling it in the direction of their next pass
Encourage players to open up and angle their body to allow the ball to be controlled in the direction they want to play
Change the direction of the passes every few minutes
Can add a second ball to increase the difficulty and speed of the drill
You can pit the 2 groups agianst each other with the challenge being which team can keep the ball under control the longest
Groups of 5 - 5th player doubles up on 1 of the markers and starts with the ball, all players must follow their pass
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Passing overlap drill (video link also)
Combine your 2 groups into 1 and set up large rectangle using flat markers with 2 (or 3) players at each marker and coach in centre of pitch as a target defender for the players to dribble towards (this will help control the drill)
1 ball in play, A starts and passes to B
B drives towards the passive defender (the coach)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
B must time a pass out in front of A and A must time the run not to get ahead of the ball. Emphasise timing and working together
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Keep the drill running until it is going smoothly and at pace then change it up as follows;
1. Swap A's with B's and the C's with D's so that the players swap roles
or
2. Start ball with B so B makes overlapping run to A's left
If time allows use both these progressions
