Combination Play - Focusing on Core Skills 1st Touch and STB


Use for older age groups that may have missed out on the SAP when younger, Whilst still allowing some Game Training as 'hidden learning'


Finsih with a Training Game for 20mins based on the 'GT' Session - No Coaching, Just Observe

Area - 20mx30m (Change depending on age and ability of players)

2 x 8 Players per group

Players play the ball in and use any combination to play the top player, who then moves to the next group. Once the top player receives the ball the next player passes the ball in


FOCUS on CORE SKILL: 1st touch and STB (Combination Play hidden learning)


1st Touch: Away from defender, Forward, Body Shape to enable a good 1st touch, Furthest foot

STB: Weight of pass, Accuracy of pass, Pass along the ground, Play feet


Progression


Introduce passive defenders, can only intercept the ball - if they do they are to play back to the start player


Outside players stay on the outside as bounces


Step-up: Outside bounces swap with the player that passes the ball to them

Constraints PG - Combination Play (20 mins)

Combination Play to hit the top player, can use outside bounces on your team, top player plays back to team that passes them the ball and they try to move the ball back to the other 'top' player


If ball goes out, team that would be in possession restarts play


Focus on the Core skills 1st touch and STB, Body position when receiving the ball


Player Tasks:


Can you play to your team mates feet

Are you able to position yourself to receive the ball with your furthest foot

When you play a pass, are you able to weight the pass so your team mate receives the ball quickly

With your 1st touch can you move the ball away from the defender

As the ball is coming towards you are you able to position yourself to use your 1st touch to ply forward


Setup: Swap when you play to a bouncer or a top player on your team, bouncer comes in

Player Tasks:


Can you position yourself to receive the ball and use your 1st touch to play forward

Are you able to use your 1st touch to keep possession

Can you play a pass to your team mate which does not put them under pressure

When receiving a pass can you position your body to keep possession when you are tightly marked

If your team mate is under pressure can you move into a position which allows your team to keep possession
