Ajax A (15 mins)
Ajax A
Set up: 2 balls, 15 X 15 square (bigger or smaller depending on what you want to get out of the activity)
Players set up as shown.
Directions:
- Player A passes to player B, then moves towards player B to close distance
- Player B sets back to player A, then moves towards player C
- Player A plays diagonal pass to player C, then joins line of player B
- Player C sets to the checking player B, then moves towards player D to close space.
- Player B plays diagonal pass to player D and joins line of player C
- Continue the pattern of set and diagonal pass around the square for an extended time
Rotation is A-B-C-D-A (or the reverse if going the opposite direction around the square)
Coaching Points:
- Weight of pass vs weight of set (Firm for pass, softer for set)
- Movement after pass to close space to speed up ball movement
- Angle of approach to create better angle for playing diagonally across square
- Communication to keep ball moving and players focused
- One touch to set if possible to increase speed of movement.
Progression: 2 balls going at the same time starting from points A and C (opposite corners)
Regression: Eliminate set and look to receive on one touch, pass on second around the square, then following pass.
