The objective of this session is to teach the defenders how to defend 1v1 and how to defend as unit, where, when, how and why to apply pressure, get narrow and compact behind the ball to protect the box, yet recognize the counter attack opportunities and initiate it.

SKILLS - SEMI OPPOSED/ OPPOSED - 20 Mins.
ORGANIZATION
Balls, cones, color vests, 12 to 16 players
INSTRUCTION DETAILS
In an area of 20 x 15 yards splitted in half, set up two teams, at each end of the zone, RED ATTACKING, BLUE DEFENDING - (I will be coaching the DEFENDING TEAM) and managing the RED TEAM
BLUE TEAM will pass the ball to the RED TEAM and challenge the pass, preventing the RED TEAM to cross the end line with the ball, if the BLUE TEAM (defenders) regain possession, they will play it back to the next line of attackers.
PROGRESSION
If the defender win the ball back, they will dribble to the opposing line

Two mini goals, or pug goals could be added, 1 at each end zone, the roles remain the same but now they score

ORGANIZATION
Full size goal, (appropriate for the age model), 2 pug goals or portable goals, balls, color vests, cones, 12 to 16 players, or upon number availability
INSTRUCTION DETAILS
in an area showed at the diagram, split the team as above, 1GK plus two defenders.
The game start from the GK passing the ball to one of the attackers, as he /she receives the ball, go to goal, affect the defender and penetrate to score, or combine the pass to create changes to score, the defenders will apply their principles as 1st and 2nd defender, if the defender win the ball back, they will counter to score on those two counter goals.

CHALLENGES
the attacking team has the touches per player, if the defenders win the ball and score they have 2 points
The attacking team(on the 2nd block) now have to score in 10 secs.

INSTRUCTION DETAILS
In an area of 20 x 15 yrds, splitted into half's, set two groups of players in pairs on each half of the grid
after 15 secs the coach blows the whistle an all the balls will returned to the players on the line,the players that don't have the ball, now will shadow defending for 15 secs.

Accelerate to the attacker

Bend the knees so you can be pivoting at your back foot
PROGRESSION
The Defenders now have the ball, they will play back to the attacker and immediately apply unopposed pressure, however the attacker will move the ball forward, dribbling and the defenders will be shifting left/right on defender position to be use with the body shape wnem defending.
After 45 secs. rotate the roles
