Build up from the GK, defenders and midfielders. (1-4-3-3)

Barnsley FC Academy U15/16s.

 

Learning intentions:

1. First thought is to play forward.

2. Secure the first pass.

3. Move the ball quickly. 

 

 

Sport science led warm up: 30 minutes

Technical practice: 15 minutes

General principle based session: 15 minutes

Specific principle based session: 20 minutes

Key Factors

 

  • Defend the grid with fluidity, maintain width & depth in-possession
  • Body shape, side on to see both end men.
  • Detail on pass: ball speed, direction, weight and smoothness.
  • Receiving skills: body shape, angle to receive, have a picture.
  • Movement to receive the ball
  • Secure the first pass.

 

Organisation

  • 2v2 + 1 + 4 target players. (9 players in total)
  • 20 x 20 yards
  • 3 x 3 minutes, 90 seconds rest  (15 minutes total)
  • Possession based practice.
  • Directional, aim of the practice is to switch the ball from target player to target player.
  • Players on the outside 1 touch.

Coaching reds, managing yellows. (Yellow's to be limited on touches/passes if required).

    Block 1: Free play.
    Block 2: 2 touch in the defensive half. 

Block 3: Forward passes only in the defensive half.

(Progression): Limited the number of touches per player. 

(Regression): Deepest target player can step in to the first half to create an additional overload 4v2.

Team Training

Key Factors

  • Maintain width and depth in possession of the ball.
  • Play forward,
  • Occupy all 3 zones of the area in possesison.
  • Move the ball quickly with purpose, limited touches.
  • First thought is to play forward, secure the first pass, move the ball quickly to find the spare player and play through or round. 

     

     

Organisation

  • 4 x 3 minutes (2 minutes rest) 20 minutes total
  • Half of a pitch
  • Reds to be coached and yellows to be managed.
  • 9v7 format
  • Red set up 1-4-3-1 (1-4-3-3) V Yellows 1-4-2 (1-4-4-2).
  • Yellow's will be managed on 8 passes to score when in possession of the ball.

Block 1/2: Occupy all 3 zones in possession, maintain width and depth. Red 4 to drop in and receive the ball to play forward.

Block 3: Yellow's to screen the red 4. 

Block 4: Red 2 & 3 to play high, 8 & 10 to occupy false full back positions. 

 

Challenges:
  • Yellow's to press the ball high.
  • Red's limited the number of touches
Coaching position between centre of the pitch and at either side.

 

What if's: 

 

  • Yellows lock on to 5 & 6, use GK as a bounce pass into 4.
  • Yellow team screen the 4, 8 & 10 to rotate and receive the ball. 
  • Yellow 7 & 11 play high infront of red 2 & 3, play over into space. 
  • Yellow team drop into a mid/low block, patience move the ball quickly and find the spare player.
