Organisation:
Area Size: 3 equal possession boxes 12m x 12m and 1 extra square 5mx5m for recovering defenders.
16 players, 12 in red bibs and 4 in blue bibs to clarify defenders.
A ball in each area so everyone is engaged and working but at different intensities.
3 minutes work/60 seconds rest 4x through.
Explanation:
The 12 players in red split up into 3 groups of 4 and are placed in one of the three squares surrounding the middle zone. 4 defenders gather inside this area until the first pass is played in one of the squares. To start the practice the first group keeps possession of the ball whilst two defenders press, the objective is to make 6 passes without the ball being intercepted. Whilst this goes on the other two groups keep the ball on the move and subsequently move around the grid to find the next pass.
Once the first team of players make 6 passes or lose possession, the defenders will recover back in to the middle zone and replace the next two defenders who go to press in the next grid, and so on.
As soon as the 3 minutes is up, all players rest for 90 seconds and one red group replace the blue pressing team.
This allows us for the intensity to differ between the roles (in and out of possession) whilst also giving them adequate rest periods in between. The defensive side are not constantly running and have adequate distances to cover to make the next square to apply pressure.

Physical Endurance:
This session works on stamina and endurance in both roles as the intensity is high over short distances and also a decent amount of time.
It works on speed and agility especially when pressing as the pressure is being applied at speed and reaction times to slow yourself down within a good defensive distance and to also turn quickly.
Whilst this session is high intensity it does allow adequate recovery between each set and also active recovery (however short it may be) whilst waiting to press as a defender.
