This session is to try and raise the intensity and desire levels of the team by makig it more competitive. Focus is trying to win the ball back as quickly as possible with high intesity mini games where there are forefeits and points for winning and losing. After session 1 some players struggled to complete the desired number of passes. see adjustments in this week session under "simplify" to aid success in completing passes and prevent the practice from breaking down or progressing.
5 C's focus-Commitment & Control
Before session challenge players desire and try to ignite a reaction. Example the need for Commiment/desire to make commited tackles and give everything to prevent the ball going in your own goal within the rules of the game and fairplay.

Area:
create an area with 4 cones, poles or discs. The sizeof the area will change depending on fitness of the group.
Equipment:
Cones, poles or discs.
Objective:
The group jog slowly around the poles in a figure of eight motion in pairs staying close together in a pack. When the whistle is blown the front group of 2 or 4 (depending on how many players in total) run as fast as they can around the course in a figure of eight and catch up to the back of the pack. They then slow down to a jog to get their rest. The next players in the front now repeat what the first group did on the next whistle. Depending on the fitness of the players will dictate if the players sprint once or twice.

King of the ring T.T
Area: create 2 squares or circles. 10mx10m for approx 8 players in each.
Equipment : balls, bibs, cones/poles
Objective: select a pair to chase the rest have a ball each and are looking to protect their own ball. The chasing teams aim is to press/tackle and kick all thy balls out of the area as quickly as possible against the clock. When your ball has been kicked out you wait outside the area till the end of that round. Once time recorded 2 new chasers come in and repeat and the original chasers then have to protect their ball. Winning pair is the pair with the quickest time. Losing players perform nominated forfeit. This practice is duplicated in the 2nd area simultaneously.
Key Points: best to work as a team rather than Individual pressing. Use physical pressure within the rules of football to force errors or create opportunity to tackle. Promote reasonable force.
Progression:
Use the same rules and idea but only use 3 balls for the 4 reds and they are allowed to pass to each other instead of only protecting their own ball. The players all stay in tbf game if they are tackled. The time recorded is when all 3 balls are removed from the area. Winning pair is the pair with thy quickest time.

5 passes to score rondo/1 lap forfeit
Area: create 2 squares or circles. 10mx10m for approx 8 players in each.
Equipment : balls, bibs, cones/poles
Objective: Split players into 2 teams equally in each area. simple rondo game where 5 pases equals 1 goal. When a team achieves this the opponent runs out the gate and round the ouside of their area as quickly as they can. Whilst the opponeent are running their forfeit the team in the area try to complete as many passes as possible. Once a player passes they must go and run round a corner cone and then back in play to recieve a pass. This contiunes untill all opposition players retuen through the gate. There are 2 scoring games in this 1 practice. 1st game is the team with the highest number of forfeit runs loses. The 2nd game is the team that achieved the highest number of passes in one attempt whilst the forfeit run happens wins that game.
Key points:
Emphasise the need to press with intensity out of possesion & get back round quickly as possible to prevent the other team from racking up more passes. Emphasies the need for intensity to rack up as many passes as possible whilst the other team do the forfeit run. Inpossesion be light on your feet, mvoing into space, be alert with head up. keep ball on the floor as much as possible.
Progression:
No progression
Simplify:
If players are struggling to get the completed passes 1st reduce to only 3 completed passes required. If this doesn't work, then penalise a team who make an unforced error and the guilty player sits out for 30 seconds giving the opponemt an overload advantage. As soon as the passes are completed the 30 second penatly ends and that player either runs round the outside or joins back in with their team to score as many passes as possible.

Area:
use 11v11 goal and penalty area.
Equipment:
Balls and bibs
Objective:
Split players into 3 teams. One team on outside with a supply of balls. The other 2 teams in the penalty area. The pitch area is inside the penalty area only. The blues are attacking and the blacks defending. The blues have a set time (2mins) to score as many goals as they can. The emphasis is usualy on the attacking team with shoot on sight mentality but this session focus is defending, pressing and desire to not let the ball go in our own goal. The blues get a ball from the reds on the outside and shoot. if a goals is scored or the ball goes out the area then that ball is dead and the blues must get another ball from the outside as quickly as possible. after the time the coloured teams swap untill all teams have had a spell shooting. The winning team is the team who conceeds the least goals in the alloted time.
Key points:
Emphasise the need to close down space quickly to stop the shot or block a pass. Encourage the players to be brave to put their body on the line for their team to prevent a goal. Be alert and react to the second ball and rebounds.Encourage them to celebrate a clean sheet in his game. Be alert for the next ball when the ball inplay goes dead. (Catch phrase on counting in the start of the game is 1,2,3 Go! It's all about the 0! )

Arrivial activity
Area: create 2 squares or circles. 10mx10m for approx 8 players in each.
Equipment : balls, bibs, cones/poles
Objective: After player completed warm up they join a box and join a red or blue team. 1 team are passing a ball between them. half the number of balls per number of team players. The other team have their own indiviual ball and dribble about the space avoiding the other players and practicing skills, bursts into space etc. after a few mins the teams swap over.
Key points:
Emphasise the need to scan and be aware. If you are passing then communicate and don't play blind balls without looking up and making a verbal or eye contact connection with your team mate. Encourage dribbing players to be light on their feet, head up and practice using an array of different touches and movement skills.
