1v1 + Pivot (20 mins)

Game: 1v1+ Pivot

  • 1v1 game to score
  • Attacking player can use Pivot for support or ignore and go 1v1
  • Pivot can not leave the end zone

CP:
  • Pivot to move creating clear passing lines
  • Decision making - when to use pivot, when to dribble
  • Use of feints after using pivot to create space
  • Different types of passes to find pivot

Progression: 
  • Add a defender to mark the pivot
  • Remove the end zone - encourage pivot to offer depth, but can come close when pressure to the ball is high

2v2+ Pivot (20 mins)

Game: 2v2+ Pivot

  • 2v2 game. Pivot locked to end zone.
  • If defending team wins possession, game is over and players rotate roles
  • Goals are worth double if they can utilise the pivot before scoring

CP:
  • How can we use the pivot in different areas of the pitch to progress forward?
    • Central - target and lay off
    • Wide areas - 3 in a line
    • Use quickly to beat a press and force the opposition to drop off
  • What type of runs do we need when finding the pivot?
    • Diagonal off the shoulder
    • Straight in front to lay off
    • Finish at back post
  • If the opportunity to progress without the pivot is there, look to take it
    • Positioning of pivot might cause disruption - we can penetrate through paired movements
  • How else can the pivot support to progress?
    • Blocks/Screens on a isolation
    • Bounce pass between lines
    • Create depth


Progression:
  • Add a defender to mark the pivot.
  • The pivot can rotate with a different attacker.

3v3+ Pivot (35 mins)

Game: 4v4 (Pivot/Fixo locked in end zone)

  • 3v3 in the middle
  • Attacking team look to progress and score - using pivot where possible
  • If they can't utilise the pivot, the attacking team should complete paired actions to progress

CP:
  • Pivot should look to position on the blind side of the fixo, offering variety of passing options
  • Pivot can offer wide option (3 in a line) from the centre, or a vertical option in the wide channel to progress the ball
  • Cues for Pivot to get in front of the Fixo:
    • If there is a BLOCK on the wide channel
    • If a Flank runs inside to get a pass from the Fixo


Progression: Remove the end zone and free gameAllow the Pivot to drop between lines/run 3rd man blocks or rotate with Flankers
