Set up
2 x Small sided teams (eg 4/5-a-side) - pitch side around 45m x 25m
Pitch marked out into 6/8 equal sized boxes
Initially get the players engaged in a basic possession game wihtin the wider area. Once warmed up introduce the scoring system (getting the players keeping possession in the larger space also quite useful if you've not had time to pre-prepare the pitch and the players can get going as you mark out the boxes
The objective is to encourage high-tempo interplay, with the ball kept constantly moving quickly and the scoring system is therefore designed with this in mind.
Scoring system:
A two-touch 1-2 between two players in different boxes = 1 point
A one-touch 1-2 between two players in different boxes = 2 points
A two-touch 1-2 between two players in/out 3 different boxes = 3 points
A one-touch 1-2 between two players in/out 3 different boxes = 3 points
All the above are doubled for every additional player involved in the move
The players won't readily be able to remember the scoring sytem but basically will be encouraged to move the ball quickly and move into space off the ball to create passing opportunities
Note there is no restriction on the number of touchers (so dribllers can still take players on), just that inter-play is required to achieve success according to the scoring system
Coaching points
Pick the right kind of pass - usually zipped along the floor if looking for quick 1-2s
Try to make decision before receiving the ball - means you can execute quickly
Always be active/available
Invest energy & communication to create passing opportunities
Constant scanning to make sure you're aware of opportunties to interplay with team-mates
