3 x 10 mins blocks.
1st 10 min block - when a goal is scored at either end or ball goes dead, play starts from the attacking goalkeepers end every time.
2nd 10 min block - when a goal is scored play starts from the end the goal was scored, If the ball goes dead the assistant starts play randomly to either side, this will create problems to solve in shape and distances between players for both sides.
3rd 10 min block - Full game, throw in's and corners allowed, play starts from the end a goal is scored.

Ball speed.
The aim of the practice is for the red team to set up and defend as a 1 - 4 - 2 - 1 (8) with the Blue team setting up as a 1 - 2 - 4 - 2 (9). With this being a out of possession session when defending overloads,
The blue team will look to cause problems for the red defending team using the principles above to interchange positions, lots of player movement and ball speed to work openings in a low block defensive set up.
The blue team will look to work the ball wide to try and draw the red defenders to the ball to create space's between the back 4, with quick ball speed and movement they will look to break lines using the overload.
The red team will look to stay narrow and compact and work as a unit, lots of communication.
Challenges, Conditions and targets:
Blue team players must play out wide before playing the ball back inside. If the blue team can score from overloads they will score 2 points prior to this if the blue team score they will earn point and after this if the blue team score from switching the play and scoring by creating an overload they will earn 3 points. For the red team, if they win the ball and score they will earn 2 points although if the red team do win the ball they will then have up to 15 seconds to score.
Full back to create pressure on when the wide player receives the ball and force them wide and avoid them from cutting inside to avoid the overload. If the wide does get inside and the fullback overlaps the centre will then cut inside to help avoid the cross in and also avoid the full back or the winger to cut back into zone 14. From this it is important for the defensive unit to switch over together depending which side the ball is played which then becomes important because this will avoid the opposition team from creating overloads in wide and central areas. Therefore the red team will need to shift over and stay narrow and compact but as well force the team to play into wide areas.
What If's
If the full back creates an overload in the wide areas?
CB and CM players will need to tuck in and support the wide areas to avoid the opposition from being able to thread the balls into the channels.

Head coach could start on position A and assistant coach could start at position B. Although through the practice they will rotate around the pitch to positions C & D

Pitch Size and Organisation:
Pitch Size: 35 x 25 yrds
Players: 7 reds and 8 blue with 1 keeper for both teams
Practice Explanation:
Head coach - Coaching the red side in the principles of defending the overload.
Assistant coach - Managing the blue side, looking to cause problems for the reds to fix
Aims of the Practice:
The aims of the Wave session is for the players to understand the defensive principles during an overload. The defensive principles that will include is on how players positioning there self in order to dictate the attacking player to force the player wide and to slow the play down for the defensive players to put them into a situation where they can intercept the ball. From this, players will also learn how to work as a unit whether being set as a back two or a back three.
In the practice the coach will work with red team, how to work on the defensive principles with the blue team working on the attacking principles. How the wave game will work is the coach will firstly pass the ball to the red team where one player will receive the ball and dribble out to start the game by creating a 1 v 1 with the goal keeper. From this, after the red player has either scored or miss the player will then track back to the middle of the pitch. The head coach will then feed two blue players with a ball to then come out to create a 2 v 1 overload against the red team but once the blues have had there shot the red team will have two more red players to come out to create a 3 v 2. After the red team has their shot, one blue player will come out as well as one red to create a 4 v 3 overload in favour for the blues. With it then ending with a 5 v 4 in favour for the blues again.
Head coach to feed each end between plays as to change the angle of approach by passing to either side of the 2 players.
Challenges, Conditions and Targets:
Attacking players have around 10 seconds to score when having a numerical advantage to keep the session realistic when attacking in an overload. If the defensive team win the ball though, they will have longer time on the ball for work to rest ratio purposes to prevent fatigue but also therefore give them a target by winning the ball, the defending team will score a point for the turnover but also have the opportunity to win two points if they manage to score.
Head coach - Out of Possession:
Stay narrow
Force Wide
Slow play down
Assistant coach - In Possession-
Making the pitch big (width and depth)
Use limited touches and move the ball quickly
Try to go in areas to have a view on both ends of the pitch
Player movement.
Commit the opponent.
