Attacking the front foot of defender
Messi touches, fake/feint to beat defender

Organization:
1.25 x 25 yard area, set up as shown
2.10 players split into two teams
3.One ball per player
Instructions:
1.Players are each given a number
2.The coach calls out a team color and number to start the game – e.g. Red 1
3.Player 1 (red) dribbles out and attempts to knock down one of the yellow teams cones
4.After the shot the yellow player 1 then dribbles out and tries to knock down a red team cone
5.Red player 1 defends and tries to prevent their cone being knocked down
6.Game continues in this fashion and each player attacks and defends in a 1v1 situation
Coaching Points:
1.Positive first touch
2.Head up
3.Attack defenders front foot
4.Execution of move
5.Big touch out of the move
6.Accelerate away
Progression:
1.P- Attacking players are given a time limit in which to get a shot off
2.R- Defenders have to touch the attackers end line before they can recover to defend

Organization:
1.3 areas of 20x10 set up as shown
2.5 yard scoring zone
3.Four teams of 12 – (3 teams attackers and 1 team defenders)
4.Lots of balls
5.3 Pugg goals
Instructions:
1.Yellow defenders their own goal for 90seconds
2.Each attacking team works within their area in a 1v1 game and aim to get past the defender into the 5 yard scoring zone and shoot into the pugg
3.After the attack is over the next player in line attempt to score
4.Team keeps their score
5.After 90seconds the defending team rotates with one of the attacking teams
6.After all teams have defended the team with the highest total of goals is the winner

1.Good positive first touch
2.Controlled approach
3.Observe defenders position
4.Attackers defenders front foot
5.Execution of move
6.Take touch back across the defender
Progression:
1.P – Increase the size of the goal and add Goalkeepers
2.R – Remove the scoring zone to allow players to score from any where

1.40 x 30 yard area set up as shown
2.12 players (2 teams of 5, 2 Goalkeepers) set up as shown
3.6 balls
Instructions:
1.Players are divided into 2 teams 5 v 5 + GK’s and combine to score goals
2.Players are not allowed to pass the ball forward
3.They are allowed to pass sideways and backward. They are also are permitted to shoot forward
4.First team to 10 goals win
Coaching Points:
1.Recognize 1 v 1 situations and take on opponent
2.When your team loses possession, try to get ‘touch tight’ to partner
3.Observe unopposed teammates and pass to them
4.Observe open space and dribble to score
5.Positive first touch where possible
6.If the route to goal is blocked, switch the point of attack
7.Improvisation/Creativity
Progressions:
P – Open play
P – 3 touch minimum, forces players to dribble
R – Introduce neutral players, who play with the attacking team
R – Opponents can only challenge after player has had two touches

Warm Up (10 mins)
Organization:
1. 30 x 30 yard area set up as shown
2. 12 players (6 Attackers, 6 Defenders) set up as shown
3. 1 ball per group
Instructions:
1. Attacking players dribble from the top of the area to the bottom
2. The defending player moves sideways on defensive position as they move back, but do not attempt to win the ball
3. The defending player must always stay ahead of the ball
4. The defending player must change their body shape as the attacking player moves the ball
5. Once the players reach the bottom of the area they switch roles and repeat in the opposite direction
Coaching Points:
1. Attack the front foot of the defending player
2. Use fakes and feints in order to make the defender switch their stance
3. Go at speed once the body is warmed up and ready to play
Progressions:
P – Attacking player now looks to get in behind the defending player at speed
P – Defending player can now tackle for the ball
R – Take away the defending player
R – Increase the width and length to 40 x 40 to provide players more space to move into
