Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): 9v9 game with teams set up differently

Method: Transition to attack in a 9v9 SSG, both teams play in a different formations. Blue team 1-4-3-1 Red team 1-2-1-2-3. Working with the Red team to try attack the blue team centrally and out wide. When blues win the ball can the Red team transition to defend and with quick transition to attack.

Coaching Points:

• Red team to attack central and look to build up with midfield 3.
• Red team to use combinations to move the blues and try find gaps to break lines to play to the front 3.
• Move the ball quickly and be direct when the pass is on to CF
• Upon losing the ball, the team out of possession should look to press positively to attempt to win the ball back.
• If the attacking team are successful maintaining quality possession, the defensive team need to take up a compact shape to deny space and press at the right time as well as being in positions to prevent passes over, through or around into the striker.
