Warm Up: 10 v 5 Rondo w/ counter goals (20 mins)

Organization of Session

  • 15 players. Sub after each rep.
  • 3 grids; 4 v 2 in two grids both top and bottom grids. Middle grid is (2 v 1).
  • 2 Counter goals on each side (4 counter goals total). 5 yards behind each side of play.
  • 20 x 15 grids on each end. 20 x 7 grid in the middle. (20 x 37) total size not including goals.
  • Ball starts on the one of the two ends to start the game. Once the ball goes out. Whatever half it goes out on the opposite end starts with the ball. 
  • 4 min games. 2 min rest. 3 reps. 20 minutes
  • WL: ((4 min* 4 reps) * 6 intensity) = 96 WL. Rest: ((2 min*4 reps) * 6 intensity) = 48 WL. Total Workload = 144.

Key Points

  • Red (Offensive): Tries to keep possession. Keeps the ball and counts the consecutive passes. 
  • Green (Defensive): Tries to win the ball. Once the ball is won; they have six seconds to score in either goal.

  • OFF: Team Tactical Principles: Keep the ball; advance the ball; Create attacking shape; Provide options to play forward.

  • DEF: Team Tactical Principles: Get compact; Stay compact; Pressure/cover/balance.

Organization of Session

  • 22 Players. 4 mini goals. 
  • 74 x 84 yards
  • Ball goes out, starts with the keepers of the team in possession. 
  • Keepers act as bumpers can go beyond their 18-line into the field of play. 
  • Both teams look to score on the mini goals. Keepers can't protect the mini goals. 
  • 2 sets of 7:30 sec games. 2 minutes rest. 19 min total.
  • Workload: Activity ((7:30 duration*2 sets)* 7 intensity) = 105 WL; Rest ((2 sets*2 min)*7 intensity) = 28 WL; Total WL 133.

  • OFF: Create appropriate height, width and depth in the attacking shape of a (1-4-3-3). Create options to play the ball forward. Switch the play quickly to find a numerical advantage by unbalancing the defense. 
  • DEF: Stay compact and deny forward passing options. Regain possession to create scoring chances.

  • OFF: Objective: Create appropriate height, width and depth in the attacking shape of a (1-4-3-3). Create options to play the ball forward. Switch the play quickly to find a numerical advantage by unbalancing the defense. 
  • OFF: Team Tactical Principles: (2,3) stay high and wide. Check down for support. (4,5) Dribble into space available, play into best options available quickly. (6) Movement to create separation from defender.
  • OFF: Player Actions:Primary: (2,3,4,5,6) Secondary:(8):  Scanning, Supporting, Controlling, Protecting, Passing, Dribbling, Adapting body shape, Movement.    
  • DEF: Objective: Stay compact and deny forward passing options. Regain possession to create scoring chances.
  • DEF: Team Tactical Principle: Don't just scan to get organized, look at opponent's shape to know where to attack on the counter
  • DEF: Player Actions: Get compact, Stay compact, out number. Intercepting, Organization, Pressing, Challenging, Delaying, Scanning, Adapting body shape.
  • Coaching Toolkit: Coach in the flow, Command, Positive Reinforcement, if needed use a freeze moment, Natural stoppages, Guided Questions
  • Success measurements: How many times did the (4,5) give away possession? How many times did the (4,5) find line breaking passes? How many switches within the session? How many times did the 6 swing the ball? Advance the ball forward?
