Specific Practise - Stopping the switch of play

Welsh Way Principle

Understand when and how to stop a switch of play based on pressure applied from the depending team.

Organisation
Half pitch practise

Tapered at half way line as space will not be utilised by the players.
Split into three thirds

6v6 with 1v1 players locked into wide areas.

Black player plays with team in possession

Explanation

Blue team - In possession - Managed

Red team - out of possession - Coached

Play will always start with blue team goalkeeper.

Blue team managed to look to switch play from one wide channel to the other.

Upon winning possession the red team will have 8 seconds to score.

3 x 5 minute blocks

Block 1

Free play for both teams

Block 2

Blue team will have visit both wide channels before being allowed to score

Block 3

Can the blue team switch play; through midfield, through goalkeeper, big switch?

Conditions, Challenges and Targets

- Blue team to utilise various ways to switch the ball to challenge red team in different ways

- Got to visit both wide channels before scoring

- Remove/add floater depending on success rate of switching play for the managed team

- Remove situation of 1v1 player locked in wide channels

- Red team overloaded in midfield to stop switch of play

- Utilise wide channels if needed to add condition on visiting both channels

- Scoring system in place for successful switches of play
