In this session the team will understand the 4 D's of defense. 1)Delay. 2) Deny. 3) Develop. 4)Destroy. We will explore the 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 to re-create and bring out the Pressure, Cover and Balance aspects of a defensive unit.

Organization:
2 different grids to allow maximum reps.
Instructions:
1v1 pressing scenarios. The defending team will pass the ball to the attacking team. The defending team will immediately press and do a correct body defensive shape to block off any penetrating run at goal. If the ball is won the roles are switched. To score a point the players will have to dribble to the line with ball possession

-Good body shape
-Front foot tackle to win the ball
-Press at an angle
-Push attacker one way only
-low on your knees
-Chest up
-Good balance

Organization:
2v2 with two goals on either side of the field.
Instructions:
This exercise will be a progression of the 1v1. Now we are adding 1 more attacking player and 1 more defensive player. The 2nd defender will now give a supporting role to the 1st attacker. This is called the 2nd defender and covering player. Again the attacking will try to score on either goals, if the ball is won y the defensive team the roles are now switched.

-good body positioning to block off passing lane or good positional defensive shape

Organization:
3v3 with 2 goals on the left and right
Instructions:
The defensive team will pass the ball to the attacking team. The defensive team will have to immediately press, cover and BALANCE. The defensive team will have to have good shape in order to block off any type of penetration from the

Organization:
2 teams of 6 players. 3 goal game.
Instructions:
Attacking:
The team in possession of the ball will try to unbalance to defensive team by rotating the ball. When and if the attacking team is able to create space they will try to pass the ball to the 2 forwards and attack any of the goals.
Defense: In the defense the team will have to Press/Cover and Balance. The defensive team will have to protect any of the goals that the attacking team is trying to score on. Once intercepted the roles now switch.

-Understanding when to press and when to cover
-quickly switch mentally from Defense to offense

Instructions:
The teams will play a free game.
Coaching Points:
Observe the rotation of defenders and how they move as a unit. Correct if necessary but do allow the team to play with minimal freeze. Preferably coaching on the flow to re create game like atmosphere and allow players to think and adapt
