Description

Technical Drill: Passing Accuracy (20 minutes)

  • Setup: Goalkeepers work with a group of outfield players. Use half of the pitch, with cones set up to mark different passing lanes.
  • Activity: Goalkeepers practice various types of passes (ground, lofted) to outfield players positioned at different distances and angles. Focus on using both feet and delivering accurate, controlled passes. Coaches should emphasize the importance of body positioning and balance.
  • Progression: Introduce passive pressure from a defender moving towards the goalkeeper or the receiving player to simulate match conditions.

Tactical Drill: Decision Making - When and Who to Pass (25 minutes)

  • Setup: Use the full width of the pitch and create zones that the goalkeeper and outfield players can use.
  • Activity: Outfield players and defenders are positioned in various zones. The goalkeeper has to decide whom to pass to based on the positioning of these players and potential pressuring opponents. Start without pressure and gradually introduce active defenders.
  • Coaching Points: Highlight the importance of scanning the field, understanding teammates' positions, recognizing the opposition's press, and making quick, confident decisions.

Conditioned Game: Goalkeeper Distribution (25 minutes)

  • Setup: A small-sided game on a reduced-size pitch with two goals. The emphasis is on playing out from the back, specifically through the goalkeeper.
  • Rules:
    • All goal kicks or passes from the goalkeeper must result in playing out from the back.
    • Teams score an extra point if they can successfully start a play from the goalkeeper and maintain possession until they reach the attacking third.
    • Apply conditions like limiting touches to increase the challenge.
  • Objective: Encourage goalkeepers to use this as a live practice scenario for decision-making on distribution, communicating with defenders, and executing accurate passes under pressure.
