Organisation
3x 8 meter by 20 meter rectangles (24v20) which can be extended into half pitch for Specific practices.
14 players.
16 minute session (2 minute mid-breaks)
Defending the Lines - Principles (OOP, reds)
> Lines are vertical and horizontal - awareness of environment - scanning
> Nearest defender apply fast pressure to close down space, force away from centre.
> 2nd nearest player ready to protect and press the pass / passing lanes. Further player protects space behind.
> Unit to protect the centre - stay narrow, compact and stop split passes
> Unit learn to shift across to limit space of the width.
2 minutes session debrief with tactics board .
Block One: 4 Minutes (Coaching Processes / Concurrent)
OOP - Focus on Aggressive press, on the front foot, Soon as nearest player press', the other players scan to press/cover passing lanes. Be aware of protecting space behind and timing of the 2nd/3rd closest player pressing to quickly and leaving space.
Trigger for initial press: Poor pass, poor control, body shape showing away when in possession.
Unit then moves to maintain compact shape (5-6 meters between players where possible).
Trigger for 2nd press - player with the football is about to pass, receiver is making active response to receive the football.
1 minute Break - Terminal feedback
Block Two: 4 Minutes (Coaching Processes / Concurrent)
OOP focuses on being patient (IP committing to possession in the central third). Once the football is about to be passed or is moved into the central third, the OPP team "squeezes" the space as a unit.
Trigger - OOP remain compact and patient until football is close or passes via the central third. Look for the football crossing into the middle third, or the pass to press.
React as a Unit to remain compact - reset into a compact shape.
Block Three: 4 minutes (Concurrent - praise and constructive)
OOP team free to select response type - focus on players recognising triggers and reacting as a unit.
1 minute end debrief / final break.
In Possession Team - managed - Break Lines - Width and Depth - Play through, around and over, start and finish positions difficult: difficult to be marked - by second coach GM.
Targets and Conditions and Challenges
> Football needs to pass from depth to height and vis vera, via the 3 zones. Initially through or around by the blue team. The coached Red team have to win possession and then become the IP team.
> Can the Red / OPP team protect the centre, force possession away and respond to the pressing / cover triggers.
