Instructions
This Tanique and skill drill will focus on control primarily but will bring in elements of passing and defending for realism
1) the outside will aim to keep possession of the ball. (working on control and pass) (one touch pass)
2) Defenders in the inside must try and tackle and win the ball of the possession when possession is won that pair switch with the coloured pair who lost the ball.
3) Using multiple areas of the foot to control and pass
mechanics of Control:
1. on toes
2. eyes on ball
3. in line with the ball
4. Decide which area to use and present it (side of foot)
5. Relax (cushion the ball)
Coaching Points:
Keep body open
Receive with back foot to create options
Speed of play
First touch important
Angel of Support
Be Vocal
Concentrate on Technical, position, and quick decision who to play to.
Width and depth (awareness of space)
Progressions:
1) Call the Name of the player you wang them to pass to or received the ball off. (observation and scanning)
2) Defender must steal the ball and pass to teammate to switch off. Anyone can try to win ball and prevent the Defenders from connect.
3) ADD a possible third player in the middle (defender)

Red and Blue again
one in middle to start (defender)
Defender has to try and win the ball (adding another defender)
Those in the middle can hold a bib so others are aware they are the DEFENDER
players on outside have to pass randomly across circle
Whilst understanding the mechanics of control
if a defender wins or intercepts the ball they swap with that player
2 min on and change if not intercepted
1. stay on toes
2. eyes on ball
3. in line with the ball
4. present area used to control (feet to start)
5. Relax on impact (cushion the ball)
*This drill is excellent as they can also learn basics on passing and defending mechanics
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Can add a second defender once confortable
control constraints (weak foot control gets extra points) (control with other areas of body e.g. Thigh)
players have to attempt to tackle (no walking)
make circle larger or smaller
if using center circle first touch has to be outside of it

Pass and Move circle (control focus)
This is a lovely control Drill which works on control/pass and light cardio
Equipment is minimal which is great for pre match or when you don't have a large area to work in
4 flats, 4 Blue Bibs, 4 Red Bibs, Two Yellow Bibs , Balls around area
Players will stand on the outside of the center circle or if not available flats will be placed at 3/6/9/12 like a clock and players fan out around in a circle
Players have to pass randomly across circle following their pass
Whilst understanding the mechanics of control
if a defender wins or intercepts the ball they swap with that player
