Introducing the concept of keeping the ball and finding the open players
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Work area is 10yds x 10yds
Players start from opposite corners and move to the ball on the coach's command. Player closest to the ball should get to the ball 1st and will then try to keep the ball for 5 seconds. If possession is maintained the team that had the short run to the ball wins and is given a point. If the player with the long run gets possession and is able to keep the ball then that team gets 2 points. First team to 10 points wins with the losing team doing a penalty. Teams switch rolls and play again. 15 minute session
time.
Coaching Point
Players are now moving towards a ball with the intent of possessing the ball. Position of the body becomes the teaching point as players will need to position the body 1st to shield the ball and then use the skill to move the ball away from the defender

Work area is 15yds by 20yds
Yellow players on offense move towards a yellow player on the outside to get a ball. Player that gets a ball must then find his team mate in the square and complete a pass to them. Once the pass is completed the receiving player must then find a way to pass to any of the 4 outside players as long as they do not have a ball at their feet. If this sequence is completed a point is awarded.
Offensive players will have 3 minutes to earn as many points as possible before changing roles and then changing positions (working players become receiving players on the outside of the work area)
Coaching point
Players are now combining the turning aspect of the activity with the need to raise the head to find the open player and keep the ball long enough to complete the pass to an outside player.

Week 1 part 3
U8-9 and U10-U14
Playing area:
Half of the field with the players playing sideline to sideline. Players split into teams playing a game of soccer. Field is split into thirds and the players are limited to passing the ball over the lines in order to move up and down the field of play. Players cannot dribble over the line that separates the field into thirds. Offending team gives up possession of the ball. Game is restarted with a quick, short free-kick.
Coaching points
Players are looking to penertrate thru the zone that they gain possision in, but will be looking to play the ball to the open player in another zone. Receiving player will need to maintain possesion in order to play the ball to team mates players in another zone. PLAYERS MUST PLAY WITH THEIR HEAD UP!!!!

Boxes are 10yds by 10yds.
Players are divided into groups of two and assiged a box to start in. Players will work in each work box for one minute before moving clockwise into the next box.
Box A:
Players jump with two feet togther so that they jump forward over the hurdle sideways to line up with the next hurdle and then forwards over the next hurdle. Process is continued until the player reaches the last hurdle. Players should try to complete this movement without stopping to gather their balance or position their feet.
Box B
Players sprint forward thru the cones backwards around an outside cone then forward thru the cones again and then backward around the other cone. Players will then jog to other set of cones and repeat the process.
Box C
Players dribble a complete circle around each cone changing feet as they go from cone to cone.
Box D
Players try to run thru the line of cones putting both feet into the space between each cone. After one cone line is completed the player will turn around and go thru the other cone line.
Box E
Ball is thrown in the air and the player tries to bring the ball down using the bottom or the top of the foot.
Box F
Players stand at each corner of the box and throw the ball to each other without the ball bouncing. Players perform 2 push ups if the ball is dropped or it bounces

Turning to keep possesion (10 mins)
Work area size is 10yds x 10yds
Phase 1
Coach serves the ball into the work area after calling two players (1 from two different groups). Player that gets possession of the ball keeps the ball for a count of 5 seconds. If he or she loses the ball the count starts again with the player that now has the ball.
Phase 2
Same start details but working players must now try to play out to the coach after keeping the ball for 5 seconds. Coach will now be moving around the square to create different optins for the player with the ball.
Coaching points
Players are looking to keep possesion of the ball without running away from the opposing player. Player with the ball should be trying to turn away from the defender by moving before the defender moves and moving away from the movement of the defender
