Warm Up Game 1v1s

Game starts with Reds playing pass across to blues who look to attack either gate.

If blue scores in gate opposite its worth 1 but if they turn back once passing line and scores in gate opposite reds its worth 2

Reds look to defend gates and if reds win back the ball they can only score in gate opposite them for a point.

When pressing, the defender should look for a triggerin the attacker’s play – for example, a poortouch, head down or back turned.

They should sprint to engage and look to force theopponent to keep their head down.

The defender should always look to show the attackeroutside.

Try to pinch through the legs if pressing from behind.

When blocking, the single defender should look toclose down the space as soon as the attacker enterstheir half of the pitch.

Slow down on arrival, approach side-on and ‘sit down’ –low body position, slightly bent knees, chest overthe knees.

The defender should look to dictate where the attackergoes – always show outside and away from goal.

They should take small, quick steps, rotate their hips ifthey need to change direction and always face the ball –they should never turn their back.

They should avoid crossing their legs, stay balanced anduse the inside of the nearest foot to the ball to block.
