3 Stations working on Movement/ Passing Patterns & Ball Mastery all designed to focus the players & get them ready for the intensity of the sessions.
10 Minutes each station
React - Players line up on central line coach sets up 3 lots of coloured cones either side of the middle line.
Part 1 - Coach calls colour in groups of 3 or 4 players react to the colour (they can choose the direction) then join the back.
Part 2 - Coach calls colour and players react to the colour and back to middle line.
Part 3 - Coach hands in command of turn all players turn until the colour it called players react to colour and back to middle line.
Part 4 - Player at the front is the leader and must decide which colour and when to go, if player at front turns the back player is now the leader and so on.
Passing Pattern - Mirrored Practice
Players work in two groups of 5/6
A plays into B who shows inside the triangle, plays a soft set (bounce pass) back to A who then plays it into the triangle for B to receive on the back foot and play out to Player C. Player C dribbles forward and plays across to the Next player A who is waiting. All players follow their pass and the pattern repeats.
- Variation 1 - Player B bounces then receives outside the back of the triangle.
- Variation 2 - Players B plays a give and go (1,2) with player C before the pass goes long back to player A
- Variation 3 - Player B bounces Player A who then plays through or around the triangle.
Twist & Turns
Players in pairs work towards 2 mannequins coming in at angles and from the side (All players working at same time)
- Outside Hook
- Inside Hook
- Reverse Step Over outside hook
- Cruyff Turn
After performing the turn at pace with good distance away from the mannequin pass to partner who then has their turn. Work at high intensity reps working each turn for 1 minute.
Progress to skill moves that are performed close to the mannequins and then find a different player on the outside.
- Step over (double or single)
- Roll, chop
- inside, outside
- Roulette
Again perform skills at high intensity for 1 minute reps/ Demo each twist and turn before allowing players to have a go.

3 v 3 + 3 Hexagon
Two teams of 6 in a hexagon shape pitch play 3 v 3 + 3 Outside players
Aim is to make 5 passes using the outside players to score a goal, focus on players ability to receive the ball with an open body shape, can they get in good angles to support the player on the ball, don't block passing lanes to outside players.
Variation 1 - Change number of passes if too easy or difficult.
Variation 2 - Allow the outside players to be tackled
Variation 3 - Limit number of touches
Breaking Lines
Possession Team of 6 players play against 3 with 2 neutrals occupying the central area.
3 V 1 in each end, play starts with Reds trying to play 3 v 1 and transfer the ball using the 2 v 1 in the middle can the possession team find the weak side (unmarked central player) Every transfer is worth a point and the practice continues. If blues win the ball they can combine with the neutrals to finish in the central goals.
Attack v Defence
5 v 5 +1
Reds set up 1-2-1-2 with a GK
Blues set up 2-1-2
Reds try to play out from the back to score in either of the 3 small target goals
Blues try to press effectively and can score in the goal if they win possession.
Coach flips the starting points each round, if the coach plays into the blues they try to combine and score in the bigger goal, if the reds win possession they break out to score in either one of the 3 small goals (bazookas).
Make sure you change teams directions of attack and swap player positions often.
