Academy - Running with the ball session with 1v1's
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Method: Bowling - set up your pins(cones) and have teams of players get two tries each at getting a strike. (Progression - They cant use the same foot for both tries) Try to knock as many pins as possible. Keep score and celebrate. Its important to have a goal and fun! Just reset the cones again after they are knocked down.
Coaching Points: We will look at all types of striking here. We can try passing into the cones outside, inside, laces. We can whack the ball we can try to chip and land on the cones so there is plenty of variation here all the while practicing all different type of striking the ball. Obviously equal amounts of right and left foot shots.

Method: Ball each for Defenders and Attackers. After Attackers have a go they are now Defenders. Attacker gets an unopposed shot. Then receives from Defender and Defender presses the Attacker so now they have a pressured shot.
Coaching Points: First Shot - power or accuracy? Where is it easiest to score from? What type of finish are we trying? What is the goalkeeper doing? Can you see any space the GK isn't covering? Can we make a good pass to the attacker? Can we press fast on the Attacker so they have less time to set? What direction will I take my first touch? What surface of the foot are we striking with? Can I fake the Defender? What moves can I do to shake the defender? Change of Direction

Method: 1v1 - two teams at opposite corners of the pitch. 15x15yd Grid with 3yd scoring zone at each goal. First player runs unopposed into the scoring zone and finishes. This is the trigger for the other teams attacker to attack blue team now have to immediately defend. Can only score in scoring zones
Coaching Points: How can we close space? How and where should our first touch go? What happens if we get close on one side? What happens if we go straight at goal? Is it easier for a defender if the attacker is fast or slow? Fakes, feints, changes of direction, stop starts, How to defend?

Warm Up (10 mins)
Method: Unopposed dribbling with the ball 2 changes of direction or pre-agreed skill moves then gets a pass off the coach and finishes. looking for basic movements such as changes of direction, control of the ball and keeping inside the pitch. Coach to keep looking up and 'scan' so that they don't crash. When finishing we want to see controlled finishes. Players regain their ball and restart the game.
Coaching Points: If there are many players close, what sort of touch do we use?? (Small)
If we have a big space what touch? (Big so we can run faster). Can we pass to the coach all the time? Look up to see if coach is ready/free to receive.
Can we change direction? How can we change direction? Get them to demonstrate to each other as some kids learn better from their peers.
What type of finish am I using? What surface of the foot? Am I getting close to goal before shooting? Get head up before the shot. Where do I put my standing foot?
