Fundamental Movement & Communication Warm up (10 mins)

10 Min

  • Working in pairs players take it in turns to count from 1 to 3 and back to 1.
  • Eventually replace all 3 numbers with football specific movements, For example 1 could be a side step, 2 could be a jump and head, 3 could be forward sprint/backwards jog.
  • If players make a mistake, they get squirted with the water gun.
  • To make it more challenging -  Introduce more numbers/actions, involve a pass with the ball.

Stuck In The Mud (with water guns) (15 mins)

Players start with  a ball.

Some players without a ball, have to hit another player with the water gun, when the player is hit with water, they have to put the ball above their head and be "released" by their team mates by passing the ball through their legs.

Coaching Points

  • Players whom are "stuck" should use their voice and eye contact to let their team mates they need help.
  • Players whom are "releasing" should also communicate to their team mate.
  • Players need to keep their head up to watch for those with water guns.
  • Players can be encouraged to use different parts of their feet to dribble with the ball and practice turns.
