Description

What:

  • Improve synchronization and reaction from 1st Defender and 2nd Defender.

Where:

  • Middle 1/3 Central

Who:

  • Focus Team : #8, #6, #10 VS Opponent: #8, #6, #10

When:

  • Focus Team loses possession of the ball attempting to progress to the attacking 1/3 and transitions to defend

Why:  

  • The opponent is able to penetrate through our midfield by triangulating and creating passing options in order to progress to the attacking 1/3 due to synchronization defaults, and slow speed reaction from 1st defender(Press) and 2nd defender(Cover Shadow). 
What If: The opponent is able to penetrate through our mid-field line? 

How: Be proactive and react with urgency to regain possession of the ball. Press the opponent on the ball as a unit do not stop, Go! Sprint to the ball by accelerating from 0 to 100 smash through. Manipulate the environment of the ball.

Introduction

Organization:

  • 2 grids of 12x12
  • Two 4v2 rondos

Instructions:

  • Possession game. Free to move anywhere within the grid 

  • 4v2
  • 1-minute rounds per pair 30-second rest ratio
  • 1 point if defending team wins the ball, and dribbles out of the grid
  • 3 points if the possession team regains possession of the ball

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Pressure: Nearest player to the ball
  • Cover Shadow: Think about the organization of the players behind the pressuring defender.
  • HUNT THE BALL DO NOT STOP, GO!

Progressions:

  • 1-2 touch for the team in possession
  • 4v3 Increase dimension of the grid according to players necessities in terms of space.

Regressions:

  • 4v1

Main Activity

Organization:

  • 20x20
  • 3 teams of 3 (Red, Yellow, and Blue)
  • 4 banks of soccer balls.
  • Grid of 20x20 (adjust accordingly if necessesary)

Instructions:

  • The coach plays the ball to any player from a different direction each round. Players will pass to each other until the coach announces the team that has to defend. (1-2 touch)
  • Two teams in possession attempt to complete 8 passes, and score on any goal that marks the color the group plays with.
  • If defending team wins the ball, they can score on the mini goal marked with their team color.
  • 1-minute 30-second round resting ratio x 6
  • Point system: If defending team wins the ball in less than 5 seconds, it counts as two.
  • If the teams in possession complete the 8 passes vs yellow and score on the mini goal marked in blue, it counts as two goals

 Coaching Points/Questions

  • Explosive reaction to press as a unit
  • Support Majority
  • Hunt the ball do not stop

Progressions:

  • Add 2 footballs at the same time, and make the cage grid more compact (adjust according to the players' necessities)

Conditioned Game

Organization:

  • 2 color teams Red VS Blue 
  • 3V3
  • Shaded area 20x20

Instructions:

  • Oppo starts to press from the of the shaded grid
  • Once the coach feeds the ball, that's the pressing trigger for Oppo to hunt the ball
  • Red starts the play, if the ball goes out, you restart with #4. The coach will feed the ball to the grid.
  • Must complete 5 passes before attempting to progress forward and finding attacker #7,#9#11

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • If we lose the ball, spring back
  • Hunt as a unit if possible, and force the Oppo to make a mistake on the ball
  • Identify who cover shadows, and who needs to press

Progressions:

  • 3v4 in the shaded area

Regressions:

  • 3v2 in the shaded area
