Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): aerobic general practice in posession

Aerobic General (20 mins)

Organisation

• 6v6 Possession practice with a team of 6 equally distributed on the outsides.
• One of the teams in the middle works as defenders trying to win the ball back therefore in theory if yellows are defending they are playing against blue and reds, if yellows win the ball back they gain a point and the ball goes back to the reds.
• 2 minute blocks with 1 minute rests in between and each team goes round twice.

Key Factors

• In possession teams look to utilise the space and use the free players on the outside.
• In possession team focus on receiving the ball, head up and making the next pass, move the ball quickly making it difficult for the defenders.
• Defenders press together and work as a unit to win the ball back.
• Progressions can be introduced if the defenders are not getting near the ball, free players limited to one/two touch etc.

Aerobic Considerations

The team defending are physically challenged to continuously press the ball for a period of two minutes. The other team in the middle are physically challenged to keep finding space in the area, there are rest periods between each block and the team on the outside are also in theory having a longer rest.
