Activity 1 - Warm Ups & Activation

Setup - All players spaced 2m apart. Each player has 3 cones, 2 blue cones and 1 orange cone infront of them, about 10 yards away.

Activity 1 - 3 Minutes / Activation:

Relays. Always start with a movment at the beginning followed by a jog to the cone in front whilst dynamically stretching.

Movements - Hop and Hold (left -right-left) / Step Over into Squat & Jump

Arm Swings, Side-Steps, Forwards-backwards into short sprint, Crossovers, Skips, Groin Stretches, Stright Leg Kick Ups, Bicycle kicks, Leg behind into knee up, Fast High Knees, Open Strides, Side Shuffles, Sprint to Finish

Recovery: Walk back after each exercise

Activity 2 (3 sets on each movement):

Movements - 1). Step Over 2). Forward & Backward 3). Figure of 8 4). 1 Foot in 1 Foot Out

Player does 30 seconds of work on each movement. After 30 seconds the coach will Clap and player must react and sprint to the cone in front - walk back to recover then start again on next movement. Add a ball to progress, when the coach claps they dribble the ball, keeping it close to the cone. Rest and recover when you reach the cone and dribble back at own pace.

Activity 3 - Reactions:

1). Coach calls "left/right" and player must perform a quick reactive moment to get to that cone and recover to the center. When coach calls "go" they perform short sprint to the cone in front. 3 commands - left / right / go. (Add a ball after 3 turns).

2). Same set up - but this time coach calls a colour, if coach calls "blue" the player must sprint around the blue cone and the yellow cone followed by a sprint finish to the cone in front. 2 new commands - blue / yellow.

Coach can still call left / right but this is to test player's reactions but also their focus. Alternatively if coach calls "yellow" the player runs around the yellow cone followed by the blue and finishing with a sprint to the cone in front. To vary this, players can start with their back to the coach - adding in new movement.

5 commands in total - left / right / go / colour 1 / colour 2

Activity 2 - Varied Rondo

Varied Rondo - 12 Mins:

This game can be played 3v2 but in this instance it is 4v1 (4 attackers in yellow, 1 defender in blue). The aim of the game is for the attacking team to build up play and to knock all 4 of the defender's cones over by passing the ball into them.

The defender has to stay inside the shaded safe zone (social distance) and protect the cones from being knocked over. The defending player must remain on the outside of the cones and cannot defend from within - although they can run through the middle of the coned area to close down the space of the player in possession.

The defender stays in the center for 60 seconds and then they switch. If all 4 cones are still standing after 60 seconds they get 4 points, they lose 1 point for each cone that is knocked over. The player who knocks the cone over gets 1 point. Each player competes against themselves. If all 4 cones are knocked over within 60 seconds the defender is switched out.

If the defender wins the ball by intercepting it, they can pass into the small mini nets for an additional 1 point. The attackers can try to defend the goal, but the defender has 3 seconds to get a shot off. If the defender wins the ball that does not mean the time is up, so for example, if the defender intercepts the ball after 27 seconds and has a shot at the mini net after 3 seconds, there is still 30 seconds of play left.

Progressions - Limit the amount of touches / Attackers have to play set number of passes before they can attack the cones (i.e. 3 passes before attempting to knock cones over).

Activity 3 - Passing

Setup: 5 Sectioned areas for players to work in to ensure they are 2m apart. Each square is 8-10 yards with central area larger for anchor player to move freely in the central area. Each player is locked into their square until the session progresses.

Player 1 passes into Player 3's feet who turns and plays a pass to Player 2. Player 2 then looks to switch play by playing a lobbed diagonal pass to Player 4. Player 4 brings the ball under control and plays into Player 3 who completes the sequence of passes by playing to Player 5.

Players look to communicate with each other and to be aware of their positioning. Focus on the first touch to set yourself for the next pass, technique and timing, taking up good positions ready for the pass.

Progressions: Add new sequence of passes and rotations of positions

Activity 4 - Shooting

Activity 4 - Shooting Pattern of Play:

The ball starts with Player 1. Player 1 plays the ball to either of Player 2 (blue or yellow) who are the strikers. In this instance the ball is played to Yellow Player 2. Player 1 makes a forward supporting run for Player 2 to play a bounce pass. As he does so the Winger - Player 3 makes an overlapping run forwards for Player 1 to pass the ball to him. Player 2 for both Blue and Yellow make runs into the box whilst Player 1 makes a supporting run to the edge of the box, avoiding the cones (acting as defenders). Player 3 delivers a cross into the box for the strikers to score. Repeat on both sides then change starting positions.

Players move to the right when the sequence is complete to rotate starting positions.

Activity 5 - Shooting Game

Activity 5 - Shooting Game:

Player A begins as the shooter. The aim of the game is to score all 4 of your shots.

Play begins with Player A running around the pole outside of the 18-yard box. Player B plays a ball into Player A (who has his back to goal), pins the defender and spins, turning with the ball and shooting first time. Player A then runs back around the pole - this is the same after each shot.

Player C then plays a high lofted ball into Player A for them to head/volley the ball into the net. Again running around the pole once completed.

Player D plays a driven low ball into Player A's feet for them to run onto and strike first time.

Player E then plays a low driven cross towards the penalty spot for Player A to finish - this completes the round.

Players then switch following the arrows. Player A becomes Player B and so on. Player E becomes Player A.

You get 1 point for every goal you score.

Progressions - Add a time limit (i.e. 60 seconds to get all of your shots off) / 2 points for a weak foot finish.
