Organisation (Practice Layout & Transition) 

Practice Layout - The Practice will require 8 players from start to finish.

1. A Large, White coned area 24m x 24m.

2. Organise 2 x 12mx12m zones as highlighted on the image.

3. Players will be organised with 4 players per group.

4. Spare Footballs located around Groups.

Technical Practice (10 mins)

Topic: Heading

Players to organise themselves as highlighted on screen, with;

1. 2 groups. Red team start with the ball in their hands. Blue will be heading the ball.

Aim: Heading - Blue headers the ball back to the red, they then run to the next available player. Objective is practise heading technique. After 1 minute, add in first two steps of mechanic: Eyes open and head ball using forehead. 

(Rotate teams every 90-seconds)

Adaptations (based on observations)

- Defensive header, direction is up. 

After 1 minute, add in third step of mechanic: Use neck & back muscles for power. 

Attacking header, directions is down.

After 1 minute, add in fourth step of mechanic: Arms out for balance.

Progressions (based on observations)

- Players get one point for hitting a cone.

Physical Pillar - Need to take into consideration the safety of players. 

Can use soft balls with younger age.

Skill Practise (25 mins)

Topic: Heading

Players to organise themselves as highlighted on screen, with;

1. 2 groups. 4 players in the middle. 2 on the line.

2. Players on the line are impartial. Play for both teams.

Aim: Heading - Players have to pass the ball from one end to the other using their hands. Opposition can intercept the ball when passed in the air. 

(If one team has possession for too long, give possession to other team).

Adaptations (based on observations)

- Players have to pass the ball to player using their hands and have to header it to outside player to earn a point. 

- Player on line to move up and down to receive ball. 

- Switch outside players every 90 seconds.  

Progressions (based on observations)

- Ball is on the floor. Players have to chip the ball up for a player to header the ball to outside player. Score a point for a header.

Small Sided Game (25 mins)

Topic: Heading

Players to organise themselves as highlighted on screen, with;

1. 2 groups. 5 players in the middle. 2 GK`s - Give GKs a bib to put over their current bib. 

2. Disc markers are used to identify corner sections of the pitch. Can take these away when we add in channels. 

Aim: Heading - Players are encouraged to cross the ball from the corner sections of the pitch to score a goal by heading. Encourage players to score if they have the chance in front of the goal, realism of the game. 

(If one team has possession for too long, give possession to other team).

Adaptations (based on observations)

- Add channels to add width to the pitch. Game mechanics.

Progressions (based on observations)

- Individual challenges to players, try and score 2 headers, making challenges realistic to boost players confidence. 

- 1 point for a normal goal - Realism - If you are in front of the goal, take the shot. 

- 2 points for a header. 

Interventions

Individual - Give a player a challenge to score 2 headers. 

After session - Congratulate a player on how well they do.
