Passing Practice

GM Moment: Attacking Organisation - Mid Third Combinations
Principle: Support around the ball
Sub-Principle: Support behind – off-set to the side – and in front
Practice Explanation: Ball starts at base of the diamond - base player plays through the gate and top player drops it off to either their left or right (rotate going left and right). Follow your pass. 


Progression: Top of the diamond plays to either left or right - they drop it back to the top who plays through the gate

When its played through the gate the 2nd time the base player plays to the side who didnt drop it off - they play forward and the diamond restarts at the top

Be set if you're playing with your back to goal

Constant communication

Deception with body


Number of Players: Minimum 6 - in progressions will need minimum 8
Duration: 4x 90sec - 30sec Rest

GM Moment: Attacking Organisation - Mid Third Combinations
Principle: Support around the ball
Sub-Principle: Support behind – off-set to the side – and in front
Practice Explanation: 16m x 8m boxes (split into 2 boxes of 8m x 8m). 4v2/1 transitional box - have to get 3 passes and play into the next grid - 2 players must then transition

Progression: Ensure it's not just the wide players transitioning - make middle player move across and keep players moving spots

Positional Game

GM Moment: Attacking Organisation - Mid Third Combinations
Principle: Support around the ball
Sub-Principle: Support behind – off-set to the side – and in front
Practice Explanation: 24m x 22m grid (2 end zones of 2m making middle zone 24m x 18m) - with poles making 10m x 8m grid in the middle.

5v5 game - directional - with reds attacking one zone/yellows attacking the other. Ball must be played through the middle grid until teams can score. Teams score by either dribbling or playing to a player in their end zone.


Progression:

Players must find a combination in the middle grid before scoring

Team lose a point every time they play it over a wide area

Practice Explanation: 11 v 11 game - with poles outlining middle zone - free play but goals scored with ball coming off a combination through middle zon e are worth double


Progression: Must be played through the middle with a combination to score

Key Messages:

#2/5 - Are you able to get into a position to aide the midfield in an overload?

Can you be a support option to play forward quickly

#6/8 -

Look to get between lines to be able to receive facing forward 

Can one of you go high in line or beyond the 2nd line of press in a position to receive forward

If the #10 is facing forward in central channel - you can you look to receive with back to goal to drop it off?

Can you constantly make movements relevant to the ball?

#10 -

Are you able to look to recieve with back to goal to allow you to either drop it to someone facing forward and play around a defender or to roll a defender?

Can you create space for one of the 6/8s to move forward alongside you?

If ball is struggling to come into the centre can you find a rotation to lose man markers?

Can you go high to create space in midfield if needed?

#9 -

Can you add as much depth as possible when the 10 has their back to goal?

If the 10 opens their body up can you look to play with your back to go to be an option?

If the 10 rotates high - can you see if there's space to drop in to receive the ball?

If a player receives a drop off are you able to look in behind?
