Driven Pass Technique: Edgemont clinics U10-U12 (updated 10/23/17)

Organization:
Grid as above with Pugg goals on each side of the lane. Grid approximately 30x30. Players with a partner and a ball.
Instructions:
Players hit a driven pass between the Pugg goal to their partner on the opposite side of the grid. The other player recieves it, and hits a driven pass back. Each pass that goes between the Pugg goals and is completed earns them a point. Play for 90 seconds. See which partner can hit the most driven passes correctly to win.
Coaching Points:
* Head and chest over the ball (lean over the ball when striking)
* Contact with first three toes on foot (laces/inside of foot)
* Angle of approach and plant foot slightly in front of the ball
* Stike the middle of the ball to drive it to your partner
* Follow through on striking foot
Progressions:
1) Players now hit the ball to the player in the group next to them (diagonal ball)
2) Driven Pass bowling for cones (see which player can knock over the most cones)
Regressions:
1) Remove the Pugg Goal
2) Reduce distace between players

Organization:
Grid as above, 40x30. Field split in half. 2v1 on defending side (two defenders). Players must stay in their half of the field.
Instructions:
Players attempt to play a driven pass into their attacker to score. If they can score off a driven pass, the goal is worth two points. All other goals are worth 1 point. Play 3 minute games, rotate players positions every game. Play 3 total games.

* In the game coaching with attacking priniples of play (penetration: passing)
* Correct technique in driven pass
* Quality of driven pass
* When/why to play driven/instep pass

Instructions:
Players dribble in the area after listening to coaches command. Coach will use a variety of touches and different dribbling techniques:
-Inside touches
-Outside touches
-Strong/weak foot touches
-Soll roll touches
-Laces touches
-Sole Roll/Step Over
-Turns

Coaching Points:
* Qaulity touches on the ball
* Eyes up after every touch to watch out for other players
* Short 'Messi' touches to keep the ball close, big 'Ronaldo' touches to push the ball into space to go faster
* Dribbling in control and correct techniques with the ball
Progressions:
P1: Split game (players must dribble through two players, and then take big touches to the edge of the area for a point
P2: Coach has bibs with him and randomly adds defender to the grid. Defender keeps bib in hand until he is able to touch someone else's ball. That player then becomes the defender. Play 1 minute rounds.
