Description

On our first session  we will work on the player's ability to Individually Possess the ball using attributes such as Dynamic Movement,Body momentum and an attacking 1v1 skill set to penetrate defensive blocks

in this session creativity is key allow the player to express themselves when under pressure encourage risks and identify teaching moments to bring out the learning outcomes.

We will focus on the E's of attacking

Entry-first touch/Approach

Execution-quality & selection of move

Exit-Touch away from defender/observation

End Product- Pass,Dribble,Shoot

Contained in the session content are many activities to choose from it is you must not try to deliver all activities ,you as the coach to choose the right ones for the groups you are coaching each day on the program based on ability levels

EG

Warm Up- What foundation ?

Main theme-What skill set/Move to work on

Conditioned game- what option to pick based on the end product & learning outcomes my group can achieve

End game- Identify a moment to teach the restart & bring out the principle of play

MVP points System

  • The player MVP system is a staple of the program and one we use to set competition from the start of the session to the finish between each individual
  • The way the system works every player has 5 MVP points to start, Players can win more points by applying themselves to each activity with full commitment trying their hardest to progress, and being awarded points by the coach
  • Players can also win points during each activity by scoring the most points for that activity and for that they will pick up 2 MVP points from the coach.
  • We also use the point system to reinforce good standards like staying in bounds, not bumping into other players, and good behavior. the player can lose their points when these standards are not met. Try to use it as a motivator, not a punishment.
  • Once the players get used to this system they will become more responsible for their own development

Pug goals as shown above

players split into two teams with pinnies.

Pick the foundation that you want to work on with your team do not try to cover them all.

Instructions

As the player trickle in before the session have them recap the homework that was sent out for skills to pay the bills. then when the majority of the group is there start the foundation of your choice.

Foundations Part 1 individual possession surface control

each player must complete a series of ball mastery surface control the coach or player will demonstrate the below list of moves and have the players copy for 1 minute of repetition for each one

beginner

-pendulums inside of the foot forward+backward

-toe taps forward+backward

intermediate

-v turn & touch

-u turn & touch

advanced

-L turn & touch

-Ronaldo chop & touch

Foundations part 2 individual possession player attributes

players dribble the ball around the inside of the grid and cover each foundation, players will also be given a number 1,2,3 or 4 or teams will be put in different pinnie colors.

on coach's command they will call out a number or pinnie color the players whose numbers or colors were called out will become defenders trying to steal the ball. in the example in diagram #2 was called so both #2's will go to defend

If the defender's steel they will transition and try to score in one of the pug goals for a point

the players on the ball will gain points by keeping possession of the ball for the entire round.(30-second rounds).

* MESSI/LLOYD: Head up looking to get into the gaps using small, quick touches with the Pinky Toe (outside of the foot).

* POGBA/HORAN: Head up to recognize when there's no gaps/space, then change of direction (12 o'clock to 6 o'clock), ball comes out of your feet, and then head and eyes up getting into the new space.

* RONALDO/MORGAN: Head up to see when there's a lot of space in front of you, then big touch to accelerate and get your head/eyes up and attack the space.

*MBAPPE/PUGH : Head up to recognize small tight spaces ,using the inside/outside surfaces of the foot to unbalance defenders to make the space big enough to penetrate

*NEYMAR/HEATH using multiple surfaces to manipulate the ball unbalance defenders using moves to create space for the end product

*RAMOS/EARTZ: players will leave their ball static in the grid and run from ball to ball on the coach's command. They will work on their defensive approach speed up then slow down before contact, eyes on the ball, bodyside on defensive stance staying on their toes.

*SUAREZ/Press :Head up to observe target, touch into space to create shooting room, strike with laces or finish with multiple surfaces, follow up for rebound finish

Foundations part 3 Group possession

-same setup as foundations part 2 but this time the teams share one ball and keep possession as a group. the coach will call out a number and this time they will go to defend against their opposite color. every 3 passes they can make, they will receive a point and an extra 3 points if they maintain possession for the entire round.

-if the defense steals the ball they must transition to score to gain a point they can also combine to go to goal too.

Foundation Part 4 Defensive principles

players work in twos one has a ball the other players will work on Jockeying the player with the ball switching the front foot in relation to their surroundings and where they want to force the player with the ball.

progression,

when the coach says go the defensive players, will try to steal the ball and transition to goal

Penetration – Is ability for your team to exploit spaces between and behind them both with and without the ball. For teams in possession to penetrate, it may be a player passing between a two defenders to break lines or playing into the space behind as well. Players should be encouraged to occupy spaces between the defenders to allow them to receive and take out the opponents from the game. Individuals can also penetrate by beating players or traveling with the ball too.
