Find the highest free player - 3v3 + 4

Title: Find the highest free player Midfield rotation - 3v3 + 4 (15 minutes)

Aim: Put players in a setting where they're getting an opportunity to break lines and play forward quickly in a tight, directional & competitive space. - Within the focus phase of the week - discuss how important transition is & what are our 4 ways to find the highest free player.

Organization / Activity: Players play 3v3. Attacking bumper has one touch, defending build up has two touch, Bumpers play with team in possession. Set up multiple grids depending on numbers.

Coaching Points / Plan for failure:

- Attacking bumpers will fail to reposition to the 'ball can see her feet' - discuss why this is important & what we need to occur for it to happen

- Players will fail in their decision to 'see three corners' & their decision to take a touch away from their opponent. In a natural stoppage demo what this looks like under pressure.

- Players will fail to change speed & direction after they play the pass forward.

- Players will be chaotic both in their body language & technical finish.

Progression:

- Adapt per age group

- Move Bumpers to fit FHFP - 'playing around-second option-sub principal

Midfield Rotation Best Practice

Title: Midfield Three Rotation - Best Practice (20 minutes) - Adapt to 4-2-2-2 09's vs Michigan Jags - CC Finals

Aim: Put players in a setting where they're getting directional competitive reps attempting to sprint away from their opponent in attempt to 'see three corners' & find the highest free player (9) in order to progress the ball to the halfway line.

Organization / Activity: 4/5 or 9 plays ball into the midfield. Blue play north & south. Red play East & West. Every time the ball is successfully played through the grid finds the highest free player (players on the outside of the gird) the team in possession gets a point. The activity then continuously repeats itself. In possession, you can't have two players from the same team in the same box, players must be aware and make decisions based on their team mates movement.

Coaching Points / Planning for failure:

- 4/5 will fail in their ability to create depth / supporting angle and will pass the ball square - remind individuals of pre training video.

- Players 6,8,10 will fail to Scan & open their body to ' three corners' to allow them to play forward, sideways or backwards. GQ: How do we find the highest free player? - By playing through, around or over. In order to do that how many corners do we need to see?

- Players 6,8,10 will fail in the timing of their movement & will arrive too early making it easy for the opponent to mark them - discuss 'repositioning after your team mate takes her first touch (previous activity)

- 6,8,10 will fail to 'hide their number' in attempt to create space. Discuss how doing this creates space for you to play via GQ.

- 9 will fail in their decision to find a gap to allow the team to execute FHFP. Remind - if the ball has eyes it must see your feet.

Progression:

R1 - Explain rules & play.

R2 - Add 9 to grid of 5-4. Mimic game situation 2v1.

R3 -  Add 2/3 for focus team in the wide channel 7/11 can now press. Discuss our ability to break lines here / game vs 08s. Vital.

Ghost Coach / Crossover Phase:

- Players will mark their direct opponent 1v1 creating a massive gap in the middle of their shape - discuss mid block & Prin: In to out

- When players regain possession we will fail to go from 'small space to big space' ghost coach can encourage both teams to do this (different voice)

Training & Solutions vs High Press

Title:Training & Solutions vs High Press - Creating Gaps In Opponent /10 becoming second 9 - (20 Minutes)

Aim: Put players in a setting where they have clear solutions on how we build (get ball to half way line)

Organization / Activity: Players play build up vs pressing (pressing team mimic next opponent)

Coaching Points / Plan for failure:

- 4/5 will fail to kill their first touch or they won't know what they're doing with the ball before they receive it. Demo options with this failure occurs.

-4/5 will fail in the technique to play ball centrally into 9/10 - demo different techniques and optimum methods of achieving this. Discuss laces vs inside the foot.

- 2/3 will fail to reposition when ball is played into our pivots. Discuss what information they have to look for, what does seeing two corners mean for them?

- 2/3 will play ball wide when they progress the ball forward. Discuss driving with the ball to play centrally & where we want to explore space / create gaps in opponents back line within this action.

Progression:

Ghost coach: Coach 2/3 sprint diagonally in during our transition

Add extra player (Sweeper) for non focus team and discuss how that changes things for us (Next weeks session)

9's movement - Attacking space in behind

Title: 9's movement - Attacking space in behind (40 Minutes)

Aim: Put players in a setting where they're understanding our intention to attack the space in behind the opponents back line as we attempt to create chances & score goals.

Organization / Activity: Players work through pattern without pressure in rep 1, rep 2 the game is directional & competitive. Discuss timing of runs, 9's working together & 'the run dictating the pass' - Tactical board during explanation. Make sure 2 / 3 have reps taking their touch inside and out depending on where their opponent is 'showing' them.

R1: 4/5-6-2/3-Weakside 9 - Unnaposed

R2: 4/5-6-2/3- Ballside 9 - Games live - Only 3 Blues over Red Line.

R3: Games live - Only 3 Blues over Red Line when ball is played through.

Coaching Points / Plan for failure:

- Players won't work to their best during rep one because of lack of contact, discuss why we are working on it, training habits & functional training at the next level.

- Weak side 9 won't move before the ball is played (Remy / Zoom Zoom) Discuss timing of C shape run / you creating your own advantage

- Players will fail in their through ball in the technique to clear the back line and weight of pass to keep it away from the GK.

- During Rep 3 9's won't be isolating 2v2 - discuss what being in the gap while being in a good transitional shape looks like.
