warm - up15 mins

topic: technical developmental - warm up (10 minutes)

5 steps for coaches to intervene to teach

- freeze, recreate, demonstrate, rehearse, go live

- help players be successful, positive reinforcement only

dynamic warm up (3 - 4 minutes)

- players preform dynamic stretching before session begins

- high knees, butt kicks, opening/closing hips, high kicks, inside/outside footwork, side steps, lunges, backwards to sprint

organization:

- 15'X10' area's created

- at least 4 players per area

- 8 cones, (2 yellow, 1 white & 5 orange)

- soccer balls 

explanation:

- figure 8 dribbling

- pass to start

- player calls a colour and passes back 

- player receives pass, dribbling around outside of cones

- passes back to start

key factors & progressions:

- communication

- decision - making

- scan before they receive

- receive on back foot

- weight of pass

- technique - outside of foot, inside, laces, touch directional

progression:

- players can play a set pass for a cross body touch before switching

initial game 15 mins

topic: selects fc technical - initial game 4 v 2 initial game (15 minutes)

organization:

- split the players up into groups of 6 - each area needs 2 pinnies & soccer balls.

- 15' X 15' per area - size of area may vary

- 4 V 2

- If defender wins ball - they switch with player who had last touch

- If ball goes out - player with last touch switches with nearest defender

key factors & progressions:

- Transitioning from defending from attacking when attackers lose possession quickly

- Speed of play

- Support - angle & distance (movement off the ball to create passing angles)

- Scan before they receive (check shoulder to gather information on & off ball)

- Decision - making

- Communication

- Open body shape to receive passes

- Quickly using width to create time & space in possession

- 1V1 w/2 gates

- attacker choose left or right through gate

-defender run the opposite way through gate

- defender wins ball - score on the other side

-p layers switch from attacking to defending

key factors & progressions:

defenders 

- proper body positioning

- patience

- force wide

- close space

attackers

- change of pace

- decision making

- side to side movement

- change of direction

progression:

- attackers can change direction once before going through gates to start

common 1v1 attacking mistakes

- players may overcomplicate the skills they're doing within the 1v1 practice

- also not appreciating how much space they've got on the field

- recognizing where the space is

- trying to use simple skill movements

- making sure there's a change of pace after the skill to accelerate away from the defender

final game15 mins

topic: selects fc technical - build out (15-20 minutes) + cool down

organization:

- 25'X20 area

- 3 pop up goals, 9 cones, pinnies & soccer balls.

explanation:

- split players into defenders and attackers

- play starts from the opposite side from 3 goals

- players start on the cones on each side

- on the side with the goals the 2 players defend

- the middle defender cannot leave the marked area and must defend each of the 3 goals.

- attackers may score on any 3 goals 

- if defenders win ball activity restarts

- dispersal 

- support - angle + distance

- mobility - timing of movement

- scan

- decision - making

- speed of play 

- switch play
