Two mini-goals on attacking players side
Activity
Attackers start with the ball. Attackers pass the ball to the defenders who pass it back them and start 2 v 2
Attackers try to dribble over end line with possession
Defenders try to win the ball and score in mini-goal. Defenders have two touches each and 1 pass between them to score in mini-goal.
Attacking team gets 1 point for scoring over end line. Defending team gets two points for scoring in mini-goal.
Coaching Points
- Communicate who's pressing, where they should show, switching or staying
- Get pressure on the ball
- Keep the player on the ball in front of you, don't dive in and don't chase

7 attackers versus 3 defenders
Activity
Defenders must start at cone 30 yards from goal every time a new ball goes into play
Attackers get ball from midfield pile and try to score goal (every round 1 player from attacking team is designated to get the ball from pile). Every goal is worth 1 point for attacking team.
If defenders win the ball they try to score in target goal (defenders get two points if they score in target goal.
Game stays alive until ball goes in net, out of bounds, saved by goalkeeper, or player is offsides
When play is dead designated attacking player gets a new ball and starts again
Each round goes for 3 minutes.
Coaching Points
Push up and stay compact
Force them to play wide and go around you
Do not chase after the ball
Tuck in and close gaps when center backs step
Hips open to see runners and service when ball is wide

1v1 Defending (15 mins)
Setup
- Setup a 10yd long by 6 to 8yd wide box with a mini-goal at end line of attacking team (orange team in picture)
- All balls start with attacking team
Activity
- Attacker starts with ball and passes it to defender who passes the ball back to attacker to start 1 v 1 situation.
- Attacker tries to beat defender by dribbling ball over defender's end line for a point
- Defender tries to stop attacking from getting point by forcing them out of bounds or by winning ball
- If Defender wins ball they have 2 to 3 touches (depends on age) to try to score into mini-goal for 2 points for the defender
- Have one team attack the other team for about 2-3 minutes and rotate sides. Do four rotations where each players attacks twice and defends twice
Coaching Points
- Get pressure on attacking player and dictate where they can go
- Get sideways and be tight with attacker
- Shuffle your feet and stay in front of them (don't dive in)
- Tackle with front foot strongly
- Get top hand on attacker if they try to push ball by you
