Technical (20 mins)

Organisation

 

4 Goalkeepers (2x u8's & 2x u9's). Paired up with othe age group GK.

 

1 Football between each pair, with spares placed in a nest in the centre.

 

Gate of cones set up the length of the goalkeeper in question.

 

1 GK is to serve, while the other GK is working.

 

Server throws the ball to opposite cone where GK has to get across & make a diving save.

 

Progressions/Regressions

 

Start on one knee for beginers so they can grasp the technique as well as fear of the floor.

 

Mechanics

From set position

Closest leg to which way you are going to dive, steps in direction of dive, and a foot

length forward

Stepping leg bends slightly to provide the power of the dive

Hands head in direction of the ball

Eyes remain fixed on ball

W’s technique generally as it will be chest and above, though sometimes a cup may be needed

Catching ball with same technique as in general handling

A shot from each angle to be struck accross goal

GK's then rotate clockwise after every 6 shots (2 each)
