Football/Soccer Session (Beginner): UEFA #10: Speak up

Speak up

Purposeful Play:  

• Have about ~1/3rd of the players in the circle without the ball and the rest form a circle, some with and some without the ball.

• The player on the inside runs towards someone with the ball on the outside, they have to call for the ball, after receiving it, they dribble to the middle and pass it to someone who does not have a ball.

• The participants have to return to the middle cone before going for another ball.

• Switch the players inside after ~30 seconds of work. Remind the players that they can only receive the ball if they call “Ball!”.

• What happened when you went to the ball quietly? How can we relate that with Speaking up boldly?
• Is it easy to speak up and use your voice?
• What hinders people from speaking up and taking bold action?

• Rotate through all players and play again, but this time instead of saying “Ball!”, the player in the middle has to call out their favorite animal or plant.
• Players on the outside keep the ball in their hands and only toss the ball to the thigh of inner player if they hear what animal/plant they call out loud. Inner player controls the ball to the ground, dribbles, and passes to another player.
  
• Rotate through all players and play again, this time the player in the middle has to call out the name of different Habitat/Ecosystems that they want to protect.
• Players on the outside toss the ball to the inner player’s chest when they hear what Habitat/Ecosystem is called.
  
• Last round, have the player in the middle call out 1 decision/choice/action that they can make to help protect their ecosystem.
• Players on the outside toss the ball to the inner player’s head who has to control the ball and bring it to the floor.

• What will happen if there is no effective way to speak up?
• How did you feel about the bold action you mentioned before receiving the ball?
